Chapter 78: A Bigger Fish To Catch

After collecting the drugs from the pharmacy, Eve left the hospital with the driver. She sat on the back seat and closed her eyes, caressing her stomach.

No one must know. Ethan must not know that she was pregnant. Otherwise, that man might stop her from going out. He could stop her from working or going to his company, and that would be bad.

“Please drop me at Ethan’s company,” she said to the driver.

“Madam, you said you’d only visit the hospital. Besides, the Young Master is not around—”

“Urgh. Just drop me there. I have some things to take care of. You can come pick me up later. I’ll give you a call.”

“Alright, Madam.” The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror.

Eve stared at her wristwatch then her stomach grumbled. She asked the driver to drop her at the entrance, then she brought out her face mask and wore it.

She walked inside the company and headed to the cafeteria. After grabbing some food and some snack, she dropped them inside her bag and walked out through the rotating glass doors.

Eve rounded the company and the coffee shop soon appeared. On stepping inside, her eyes were met with several employees. They filled up the whole coffee shop.

“You came early today, Mira.” Amanda was sitting at one of the tables with the other two middle-aged men.

“Mira has gotten the hang of everything. Surely, she’s taking her job seriously.” Mr. Clinton smiled at her.

“Hi, everyone.” Eve waved at the employees. “I bet some of you are just seeing me for the first time. So I’d like a proper introduction today, right, Amanda?”

“Sure, Mira. Please introduce yourself to everyone and get to know each other.”

Eve went to each table, introducing herself. She spent a long time chatting with the employees until they were well acquainted.

“And now that we have known each other. I hope we will treat each other as brothers and sisters even on a battlefield.”

“Certainly, Mira.”

“You’re a great example to all of us. In this whole company, no one has successfully seduced the president. But Amanda told us that you managed to do that.”

“Please, you’re flattering me.” Eve waved a hand as the employees stared at her in awe. “Now that I’m here, Amanda. You’re going to tell me what you promised, right?”

“I don’t break my promise.” Amanda laughed softly. “You’re leveling up fast in this club, Mira. You are now in the position to know everything.”

“Okay, please I’m listening.” Eve sat on one of the chairs and gave the Lady her rapt attention.

“That will be Mr. Alan’s job.” Amanda looked at one of the middle-aged men. “Mr. Alan, please do tell Mira everything she needs to know about this club.”

“With great pleasure.” Mr. Alan stood up and cleared his throat. “As you already know, the Ambitious Employees Club is purposely made for the hardworking employees that seek to earn more in this company. We have been operating for a long time now. And we make sure we double the profits of this company, then take one hundred and fifty percent and share it among ourselves.”

“But there’s more to this club.” Mr. Alan continued. “Yes, we are working for this company. But imagine how we’ll be very much needed when a problem arises in this company.”

“What was that supposed to mean, Mr. Alan?” Eve narrowed her eyes.

“You see, Mira. It’s like this. We cause some ripples in this company. And when the time arises to solve those problems, we stand up strong and help the company. This way, the president holds us in high regard. And the trust he has in us strengthens.”

“Really?”

“That’s right.” Mr. Alan chuckled. “You see that document we asked you to sneak into the president’s files? You were right. Those ideas can attract a lawsuit as they were all copied from other companies.”

“And that is what we are aiming for, Mira.” Amanda chipped in. “Once the president implements those ideas, it will affect this company. That is where we come in and handle the problem.”

“Wow.” Eve’s mouth hung open. “Th–That is very clever.”

“That is not all.” Mr. Alan went on. “You see those pictures you sent to us?”

“What about those pictures?” Eve asked, staring at the man with furrowed brows.

“Imagine how the whole city will react to the president having an affair with his own secretary.”

“It will affect the president’s reputation and can also bring down the company.”

“Exactly, Mira. You’re so smart!” Mr. Clinton gave her a thumbs up.

Eve looked at the managers, her frown deepening. “I don’t get it, Amanda. If this company falls, won’t our hard work be in vain? The employees will lose their jobs. The president will lose his position, and we’ll all be left with nothing.”

“Sure, the employees will lose their jobs, Mira.” Amanda smiled. “All the employees, except The Ambitious Employees Club members.”

“Huh?”

“That’s right.” Mr. Alan laughed. “Because the truth is, Mira. There’s a bigger fish to catch.”

A bigger fish? Eve opened her mouth to say something but the man continued.

“But that is not going to happen soon. In the meantime, we’re going to take things slowly. There’s this important mission you must carry out, Mira.”

“I told you about it during the phone call.” Amanda picked up a document from the table. She stood up and came to where Eve stood. “This is your assignment, Mira. Since you’re very close to the president, you must have known his password by now. Copy everything in it into his computer and upload it to the company’s website.”

“You want me to copy it all?” Eve flipped through the bulky document.

“Yes, all of it.” Amanda gave her a smile. “I would have given you the soft copy, but as you know, we can be clumsy sometimes. So we won’t risk losing it and having someone find it, right?”

“You’re correct.” Eve dropped the document into her bag and nodded. “Consider it done, Amanda. I’ll make sure I copy everything.”

“That’s more like it.” Amanda chortled and faced the other employees. “You must learn from Mira, everyone. If you’re not careful, she will take up my position after I step down.”

The employees only clapped and the place rang with their laughter.

“We can’t compete with, Mira, Amanda. She’s more than capable to step into your position.”

“Mira is like our goddess and we look up to her. She makes our work easier and that is great.”

“Since we got access into the president’s office, we didn’t need to pull strings anymore. And it is all thanks to our dear Mira.”

“That is correct.” Amanda nodded in agreement. “You have earned it, Mira. Apart from the salary the president is giving you, expect your bank account to explode in the next few days.”

“Oh, my goodness.” Eve placed both hands on her chest and her lips spread into a smile. “You’re so great, Amanda. Thank you very much.”

“It’s nothing. Just do as I have told you, and you’re going to get more than just benefits.”

The employees trickled out of the coffee shop one after the other as the lunch break was over.

Eve took a different route from the one she’d followed before. She entered the company, dodging the receptionists’ area then walked into the elevator.

“What a small world.” Eve turned around and came face to face with Jessie. “We are alone in this elevator, Mrs. Anderson. If I disfigure you right now, will you beg for mercy or scream for help?”
