Chapter 79: Tell Me The Truth

“Aren’t you thinking too highly of yourself?” Eve folded her hands and raised a brow. “You did a nice job in using plastic to conceal the scar on your nose. If you like it that much, I’d be glad to break it into two.”

“Mrs. Anderson.” Jessie covered her nose and glared at her. “If I were you, I wouldn’t think of repeating the same mistake twice.”

“What mistake?” Eve chuckled and cracked her knuckles. “I don’t see it as a mistake, Jessica. I was in my right mind and I can repeat it now.”

“You should be thankful that you’re the president’s wife.” Jessie scoffed, admiring her fingernails. “I swear if you dare cross me again, I won’t be very nice.”

Eve shook her head at the girl, smiling. “You know what, Jessica? Just take your eyes off my husband and we won’t be enemies anymore.”

“You can keep dreaming about that.” Jessie rolled her eyes and the elevator came to a stop at the finance department.

“By the way.” She glanced over her shoulder after stepping out of the elevator. “The president has traveled, and his secretary is roaming around in the company. Tsk tsk tsk, Mrs. Anderson, I think you really are digging a hole for yourself. Watch your back, because someone might bite you soon.”

The elevator doors closed and Eve fanned herself with both hands. No need to waste her emotions on the hopeless girl. She had more important tasks to tend to.

When the elevator arrived at the president’s area, she walked ahead to the office and the employees’ eyes lit up on sighting her.

“You are living the life, Mimi.”

“You come to work as you please and leave whenever you want.”

“How I wish I have a husband that owns a company. Oh, even a boyfriend will do. Then I can be his secretary.”

“Yeah, imagine the joy and romance. Forget about the benefit.”

“Check out some jewelry, Mimi. I know you’ll love them.”

Eve’s eyes darted between the employees’ cubicles and the president’s office. In the end, she decided to linger there for a while before proceeding to the office.

“One million!? But that’s too expensive.” She stared at the jewelry and leveled it to her kneck.

“It’s not too expensive that our dear Mrs. Anderson can’t afford. Come on, Mimi. It suits you well.”

“Yeah, take a look in the mirror.” One employee flashed a mirror in front of her. “You can wear this when the president returns, and he’ll regret ever going on the trip.”

“Urgh, I think I should ask Ethan to transfer you to the marketing department. You’re wasting your talent in the president’s area.” Eve brought out her credit card and the employee swiped it.

“That is so generous of you. Please do that, Mrs. Anderson– I mean Mimi.”

After dropping the jewelry box into her bag and taking her credit card back, Eve entered the president’s office and sank on the couch.

“Ah.” She breathed out a sigh and caressed her stomach. Very soon, a bump would appear. Why now?

She shut her eyes to process her thoughts, but she ended up falling asleep on the couch.

Eve woke up to the grumbling sound in her stomach. She was hungry again.

Her eyes strayed to the orange sun behind the floor-to-ceiling window and she picked up her bag then stood up.

She walked to the water dispenser and poured some into a cup. And while drinking the water, she strolled back to Ethan’s desk and sat on his swivel chair.

Eve dropped the water cup and went through the documents on his desk. She checked each document front and back, and after she was done, she neatly stacked them into place.

She then leaned down and looked underneath the desk. After seeing the chip still in its place, she stood up and dusted her hands then returned the water cup to the dispenser before picking up her bag and leaving the office.

She phoned the driver while heading to the elevator and bid some of the employees that were left goodbye.

“I hope you had a great day, Mrs. Anderson.” The driver was already at the parking lot when Eve got there and she entered the car.

“Sure, thank you.” Eve nodded and closed her eyes.

She fell asleep before the car left the company, and when they arrived at the Villa, the driver tapped her awake.

Eve staggered into the house and covered her mouth to stifle a yawn.

“Madam, you’re back.” Elena met her at the entrance. “You promised to only go to the hospital. Did you branch somewhere else?”

“I was so bored, Elena. I stopped at the company.”

Elena shook her head at her. “How did things go at the hospital? Did the doctor diagnose your illness?”

Eve gripped her bag and avoided the Stewardess’s eyes. “Yeah. It turned out to be just a minor illness. Apparently, I hate some bad food.”

“Huh? Just a minor illness?” Elena’s brows creased into a frown. “Are you sure, Madam? Did the doctor conduct tests on you?”

“Yeah.” Eve sighed inside. “Don’t worry. They even prescribed me some medicine. I’ll be alright.”

“Oh.” Elena sighed in disappointment. “And I was thinking that…” She trailed off and sighed again.

“Dinner is ready, Madam. How about you eat first?”

“Thank you.” Eve walked past her and Elena held her bag.

“Let me take this upstairs for you.”

“Ah, no. Please don’t bother.” Eve held the bag protectively. “I– I’ll do it myself after I’m done eating.”

“Ow, okay.” Elena retreated. “I made your favorite, please eat as much as you can, Madam.”

The Stewardess left her alone and Eve went to the dining table and sat down. She stared at the many foods. They were all her favorites.

But…

Her stomach suddenly churned in a strange way and she covered her mouth. After waiting for a few seconds, the urge to throw up died down and she picked the pineapple juice and drank it.

After dropping the juice glass, Eve ate two spoonfuls of the food. Then nausea hit her again. This time, she sprang to her feet and grabbed her bag before rushing upstairs.

“Madam–”

She ran past the Stewardess and barged into the room then headed to the bathroom. After throwing up and rinsing her mouth, Eve decided to take a bath before leaving the bathroom.

She walked out in her bathrobe and met Elena waiting for her in the bedroom.

“Tell me the truth, Eve. You’re pregnant, isn’t it?”
