The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 91: Why Do You Keep Causing Trouble
Chapter 93
“Evelyn, my precious grandchild.” Her grandfather hurried in and held her hands. “Are you feeling better now? Tell me, where do you feel pain? Grandpa will do anything to make sure you survive.”
“We were astonished by the news.” Her father looked out of his wits. “Eve, how did you get poisoned by the maid? What did she feed you?”
The maid poisoned the food? Eve’s eyes went to Ethan, and as if reading her thoughts, he slowly nodded.
“W–Why would she poison us?”
“She is currently in police custody, Evelyn. She must spill out the truth,” her grandfather replied.
“Big Sis, are you alright? You’re not experiencing any pain, right?”
Her sisters walked forward and hugged her.
“We were so scared, Big Sis. When brother-in-law called that you’re at the hospital, the whole family has to return from the vacation.”
“You went on a vacation?” Eve asked.
“Sure, Big Sis. The whole family traveled to a remote island. We didn’t tell you because we thought you might not wanna come. We traveled the day before yesterday. Then brother-in-law called that Samantha poisoned your food.”
Eve could not remember getting on the maid’s bad side. Why would she think of poisoning them?
“We’ll seek justice for you, Evelyn. Don’t worry.” Her grandfather boomed. “No one dares to hurt my family member and go scot-free. I will scour this earth for my enemies if I have to.”
“It’s alright, Grandpa. Calm down.” Eve put on a smile. “The most important thing is I’m out of danger. The police will do their job and make her speak out.”
“I hope so,” her grandfather grumbled then went to a corner and sat down.
“Eve.” Her father touched her shoulder. “You poor child, you have suffered a lot. I promised to protect you, but I’ve failed you again. And your husband—”
“Don’t give him that look, Dad.” Eve waved both hands. “Both Ethan and I were fooled by the maid. We didn’t see it coming.”
“Well, please take good care of her, Son-in-law.” Her father glanced at Ethan. “You know how fragile she is. You should have stopped her from consuming the food. See, you didn’t eat it and nothing happened to you.”
“Urgh, Dad—”
“Be rest assured. I won’t let her get into any danger again, I promise.” Ethan’s words interrupted Eve.
“Big Sis.” Cassie smiled. “Thank goodness nothing happened to you. If something has happened, we wouldn’t have had the chance to break the good news to you.”
“What good news?” Eve asked.
“Cassie and I will study abroad. Dad has made arrangements to transfer us to a prestigious school. Can you guess how many marks we got in the exam?”
Both girls showed Eve their fingers and she gasped. “Oh, my goodness. Congratulations, girls.” She hugged them both. “My beautiful sisters are so smart. I knew you would make it.”
Literally, the same thing happened in her past life. Eve had almost forgotten the event. But not long after her sisters’ success, she and Ethan both met with their biggest calamities. At that time, Eve was already thrown out of the family to face her repercussions.
“Where is Mum?” She pulled away and looked around the room.
The girls exchanged glances then hesitated. “Mum is at home. She said she’s tired from the trip.”
“Big Sis, don’t worry. She might visit you next time.”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Eve put on a careless smile despite the sudden ache in her heart. “Mum must be jetlagged.”
The girls nodded concurrently and went to the couch then sat beside their father. As the family conversed with each other, the large ward resounded with their voices and laughter.
“Ethan.” Eve shifted close to him and whispered. “They didn’t mention anything about my pregnancy. Didn’t you tell them?”
“I was planning to tell them when they come,” Ethan whispered back.
“Then don’t.” Eve sighed in relief. “We can invite them over tomorrow and break the news to them then celebrate at the same time. I hope I’ll be discharged today.”
“If you’re no longer feeling any discomfort, the doctor will discharge you,” Ethan replied.
Eve rested her head on his shoulder and returned her attention to the family. Not long after they left the hospital, she also got discharged and left for home with Ethan.
The next day, she woke up to noises and chatter in the mansion. The Stewardess had invited people over for the decorations. Eve glanced out of the window. The whole Villa was being decorated fully with balloons and stickers, and Ethan and his brother were helping out.
She walked away from the window, smiling. And she entered the bathroom then got ready for the day.
Eve descended downstairs and headed to the dining room for breakfast. After she finished eating, a maid came and packed the plates and she followed her to the kitchen.
“Hi, Elena.”
“Good morning, Eve. I hope you had a splendid night.” The Stewardess smiled brightly.
“Yeah. I was so excited last night for this morning to come. I didn’t know I would sleep like a baby.”
“That is great. Sleeping well is good for your health, Eve.”
Eve lingered in the kitchen and surveyed the meals they were cooking. She wanted to help out by cutting the vegetables, but Elena and the maids turned her down and chased her out.
“Please, don’t, Madam. You must look over your health.”
Eve pursed her lips and walked out of the house. Elena and the maids were already treating her this way. When they found out she was pregnant, weren’t they going to spoil her rotten?
“Eve, you look tired.” Ethan approached her. “You can’t overwork yourself.”
“How the hell do I look tired? I just woke up, Ethan. Seriously?” Eve folded her hands and scoffed.
“It doesn’t matter,” Ethan said softly. He took her to a shade and made her sit on a chair. “Don’t run around, Eve. It’s bad for your health.”
“Argh!” Eve groaned as he walked away then returned with a bottle of water. “If you’re parched, take this.”
“But I just ate breakfast!”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Ethan walked away and Eve tossed the water bottle aside. Her eyes followed his back as he stopped by one of the workers and helped her hang a decoration and a subtle smile formed on her lips.
“You… What did you do to my Big Bro, Sister-in-law? Why is he treating you like a baby!?” Matt came to her and huffed.
“You won’t understand, Little Bro.” Eve played with her fingers and giggled. “It is called Love.”
“This is childishness.” Matt glared at her. “My Big Bro is mighty and strong. Don’t bring down his reputation, Sister-in-law.”
“How about I find you a nice girl to fall in love with, Matt? Then you’ll understand what it feels like to be loved.”
“Bah! This Young Master isn’t interested in petty things. My Big Bro is already a goner, all thanks to you, Sister-in-law.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Eve giggled again.
Matt strode away and she brought out her phone then played with it. Not long after they finished the decorations, the families arrived while Elena and the maids were spreading food on the vast table outside.
“Where is that Evelyn!” Ethan’s grandfather hollered. “Why do you keep causing trouble for my grandson!?”
