The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 94: She Doesn’t Like Me
Chapter 96
“You, Evelyn! You think you have finally made it in life! You think you can bully others and do as you please!? Unlike you, I won’t go to the authorities. I’ll take the matter into my hands and make sure you’re dead!”
As Mia charged toward her with a knife, Eve stood still, unable to react. But Ethan acted fast and knocked the knife out of her hand.
“Ahhhhh! Leave me alone! Let me at her!” Mia screamed as two bodyguards hurried forward and seized her. “I said let me go! You are all bunch of fools and cowards, hiding behind the authorities! If you don’t fear me, Evelyn, let’s fight barehanded. I’ll poke out your eyes and make you regret ever thinking of harming Cole.”
“This crazy girl. Why did you come here?” Eve’s grandfather stood up with his cane. “You have lost your mind by thinking that you can harm my granddaughter.”
“Are you sure that she is your granddaughter!?” Mia yelled. “You have always hated me, Old Man. I wasn’t surprised when you wanted to kick me out. What stupid blood test? You made it all up!”
“Shut up!” The old man hit the floor with his cane. “You are too troublesome. Who said I hated you? However, I always had my doubt that you weren’t a part of my family. No member of my family acts recklessly and thinks too highly of themselves.”
“Didn’t she act recklessly? When you brought Evelyn back, did she not cause trouble for you?”
“You are too young to think that you can deceive us, Mia.” Eve’s father cut her off. “Evelyn didn’t cause as much trouble as you did. Do you think we weren’t smart enough to notice that it was you influencing her?”
“So what if I influenced her? It wasn’t like she was stupid! And right now, I must tell you that all her action is a facade. A grateful child would appreciate the people that raised her, but did she ever go back to the province to visit them?”
“We told her not to visit them! Even an animal would not bring up a child the way they did to her. Mia, your parents are as horrible as you! You should be grateful that we still wanted to keep you despite all that.”
“Why should I be grateful!?” Mia yelled and wiped her tears. “You’re all bunch of shameless bullies. Because I didn’t want to stay, you all forgot about me. I can’t believe you guys raised me for thirteen years! How can I not hate you for that, tell me!”
“It’s not their fault, Mia.” Eve stepped forward and reasoned with her. “You know you wanted to stay but you were too prideful and stubborn. You should have conceded and let everything go.”
“You don’t have any right to tell me that, Evelyn! I’m not stubborn and prideful, you are. And I swear I won’t let you go. I’ll hunt you down and end your life. Cole is still in police custody, aren’t you too heartless to not let him out?”
“Cole is a threat to my life. He’ll only come out when he finishes serving his punishment.”
“Cole is the only person I lean on. Even those dirty poor people don’t want me. Let him go, Evelyn! He didn’t do anything to you!”
Eve’s attention was on Mia and she didn’t notice when the police arrived.
“What are they doing here?” She looked at Ethan, but he only stared back at her in confusion.
“I was the one that called the police.” Eve’s father spoke up. “I thought that man was going to do something stupid, thankfully, they arrived just in time to tackle this troublemaker. Take her away, Officer. Whoever threatens my daughter’s life is not going to wander this earth freely.”
The three policemen grabbed Mia from the bodyguards’ hands and handcuffed her.
“Ahhhh! Let me go!” Mia screamed as they dragged her out of the gate. “A bunch of heartless family! Evelyn, you will never live peacefully!”
Mia’s screams faded away and there was pin-drop silence.
“Insolence!” Eve’s grandfather hit the table. “This girl is a bad omen. She just managed to heighten my blood pressure!” He fumed in rage and strode away.
“This isn’t a party, this is a disaster. This Young Master has had enough! If I don’t get out of this place, I can spit blood!” Matt also stood up, heading to the parking lot.
Silently, Ethan’s grandfather rose to his feet and left.
As everyone left, Eve’s heart sank to her stomach. “Mum.” She hurried to her mother who was already on her feet. “Please stay, the party’s not over.”
Eve held her hand and the woman pushed her away, giving her a blank look.
“I only want you to stay back, Mum.” She hurried to her feet and blocked her path. “Is that too much to ask?”
“Get out of my way,” her mother said under her breath.
“I’m pregnant, Mum! You didn’t say anything or react since you came. Tell me, what did I do wrong!?”
“I said get out of my way.” Her mother stepped aside and Eve followed her.
“No, I won’t!” She shook her head and wiped her tears. “What did I do wrong, Mum? Is this all because of Mia? Do you hate me this much!? You can’t even talk to me, you can’t even force a smile, and you don’t even want to come near me! Just tell me what I did!”
“Eve, calm down.” Ethan came to her side but she pushed him aside.
“No, I need answers from her.” She blocked the woman’s path again. “You raised Mia as your own and you dislike seeing her this way! But you can’t put all the blame on me, Mum! It isn’t my fault that she’s doing all this! I’m your daughter for goodness sake!”
“You don’t know anything.” Her mother raised a hand and slapped her across the face.
“Selina!” Eve’s father exclaimed.
Eve held her cheek and the woman pushed her aside then resumed walking to the parking lot.
“Evelyn, are you alright?” Her father hurried to her and checked her cheek. “Please don’t mind your mother. You know how she is.”
After saying that, he hurried after the woman but he never came back.
“We’re so sorry, Big Sis.”
The twins approached her.
“I think Mum is just tired from the drama. She has been sick lately, please don’t take it to heart.”
They bid her goodbye and also left in low spirits.
“What did I do wrong?” Eve threw her arms around Ethan and bawled her eyes out. “Why won’t she tell me what I did wrong?”
“Eve, stop crying,” Ethan murmured against her hair as he hugged her. “Crying will affect the babies.”
“Everyone has left.”
“Don’t let it bother you.”
“This party is a mess, Ethan.”
Eve couldn’t stop her tears even as they walked back into the house. Ethan made her sit on the living room couch and Elena brought her a glass of juice.
“Don’t be sad, Madam.” One of the maids walked forward with wrapped boxes. “See, we have gifts for you. We can still celebrate.”
Eve dropped the glass and shook her head. She was no longer in the mood to celebrate. “W–Why did you get me gifts?” She looked at the boxes.
“We wanted to congratulate you with them,” Elena answered her question. “We already know that you’re pregnant, Eve. We were just waiting for you to announce it.”
They already knew? Eve wiped her tears and stared at them in confusion. Then her mind went to the day her mother bumped into her in the hallway when she was about to return home with Ethan.
She also knew she was pregnant.
“She doesn’t like me, Ethan!” Eve covered her face and cried harder. “Am I not good enough!?”
“Stop crying, Eve.”
“Please don’t cry, Madam.”
