The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 95: A Vacation
Chapter 97
Like the sand in an hourglass, the months slowly trickled by. While Ethan worked hard day and night to stabilize the company, Eve couldn’t ward off the lingering fear that Wade was lurking in the shadows. Sometimes, she would forget he existed, and other times, the thought of his action and promise made her wake up with a start in the middle of the night. Such as this night.
Eve reached for the glass of water on the bedside table. She took a sip of it, patting her chest to ease her frantic heartbeat.
Her eyes squinted in the darkness and she turned on the bedside lamp then looked sideways at Ethan.
“You’re awake?” Ethan turned and opened his eyes. “Is it the nightmare, Eve?”
Eve sighed and slowly nodded.
“I told you to stop worrying about it. He can’t do anything.”
“We’re not sure, Ethan.” Eve shifted and rested on his arm. “That man is dangerous, we must be wary of him.”
“He can’t do anything,” Ethan repeated, caressing her bump. “I’ll make sure he never comes near you.”
Eve wasn’t worried about herself. She was worried about him. She’d seen with her eyes how his car fall off the mountain cliff. She’d tasted the agony of death as she drowned deep in the ocean… And to think that it was all caused by Wade… To think that he bore a deep grudge against the family.
The maid that poisoned them also later confessed that she was following one Mr. Hudson’s orders.
Unfortunately, Ethan’s grandfather wouldn’t speak about him. The old man had never spoken a word regarding Wade despite Ethan and his brother’s pestering. Eventually, they decided to leave it be.
“How about this?” Ethan brought his hand up and stroked the side of her face. “Since the company is stabilized now, let’s go on a vacation. You can still fly, so it’s better we go early.”
“Vacation to where?” Eve whispered.
“How about that island Grandpa gifted you? You’ve always wanted to go there.”
“When will we come back, Ethan?”
“Maybe after you put to bed. What do you think?” Ethan suggested.
The island would be like a desolate place. Not many people would be with her. They’d be surrounded everywhere by nature, and her mind might not wander often to the dangers.
“I think I like that idea,” she said after a few seconds. “Can we come with Elena and the maids?”
“Why not?” Ethan answered. “I’ll even hire a personal gynecologist for you.”
Eve smiled and shifted close while he wrapped one arm around her. “Speaking of a gynecologist, Ethan, remember we’ll see the doctor tomorrow. I can’t wait to know the genders of our babies.”
“Me too.”
“Can we do some shopping before flying to the island? I don’t want us to lack anything while we’re there.”
“I’ll take care of that. Just make a list of the things you’ll need.”
Eve sighed and slowly nodded. She really missed going out and flying around freely. But she couldn’t just be reckless now. She had her babies to protect.
“Go to sleep.” Ethan pulled up the sheet and covered them both with it. “So you can wake up energetic in the morning.”
Eve nodded and closed her eyes. She could feel his fingers running through her hair until she drifted off.
“Are you ready, Mrs. Anderson?”
Eve didn’t know if she was ready. Her heart pounded in anticipation as she lay on a bed while the OB-GYN stood beside her the next morning.
Ethan was sitting on a chair across the doctor’s desk, deeply engrossed in operating his phone. He didn’t seem at all anxious.
“I– I think I’m ready.” Eve nodded and held her breath.
“Loosen up, Mrs. Anderson.” The doctor chuckled. “It’s a breezy process. You’ll get to know your babies’ genders in just a few minutes.”
Eve forced a smile while her heart pounded. As the doctor rubbed the chilled liquid on her abdomen then rotated the wand around it, she tried not to look at the monitor and decided to shut her eyes.
“Oh, Wow! They’re boys!” The doctor’s exclamation made her open her eyes and her heart skipped a beat.
Ethan’s phone dropped from his hand and he sprang to his feet, his eyes brightening.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson, you’re having baby boys.”
“Thank you, Doctor.” Ethan smiled.
The doctor used a tissue to wipe the liquid off Eve’s stomach then she removed her gloves and sat on her chair.
“We’ve all been anticipating this moment. I can see you’re very happy, Mr. Anderson.”
Ethan nodded. He glanced at Eve, his smile broadening.
Eve sighed inside and adjusted her dress then got down from the bed. She sat opposite him and faced the doctor as she wrote down some notes.
“Getting a personal psychologist is a good option. If you don’t mind, I have some suggestions. Please take good care of her, Mr. Anderson, especially when she reaches the last trimester.”
“We won’t mind, Doc. Which phycologist do you have in mind?” Eve spoke up after getting Ethan’s silent consent.
“I’ll connect you with her. Please let me know when you will go to the island, so I can make sure she is well prepared.”
“Okay. Thank you for your help, Doctor.” Ethan nodded.
“I hope you don’t feel anything else apart from the normal discomfort. Please let me know so we can tackle it before you go, Mrs. Anderson.”
“I don’t feel any discomfort.” Eve shook her head. “Apart from the fact that my stomach feels very heavy. Sometimes, it’s difficult to sit properly.”
“You’re carrying two babies, Mrs. Anderson. It is normal for your stomach to feel very heavy. Don’t worry about that, it will only happen sometimes.”
“O–Okay.” Eve nodded in understanding and caressed her stomach.
“Please get these medications, Mr. Anderson.” The doctor handed the piece of paper to Ethan. “Your wife will need it very much. Make sure she doesn’t miss any pill at the appropriate time.”
“Okay.” Ethan took the note from her.
After thanking the OB-GYN and leaving her office, he made a wait on a waiting chair and went to the pharmacy to get the medications.
He came back with a bag some minutes later and they took the elevator down to the parking lot.
“You aren’t cheerful, Eve. What is wrong?” Ethan asked as they sat inside his car.
“I also want a baby girl, Ethan.” Eve pursed her lips. “I didn’t expect them both to turn out to be boys.”
“You don’t like boys?”
“Of course, I love my babies no matter what gender they are.” Eve looked at him and played with her fingers. “But I also want a baby girl.”
“We can have our baby girl later. How about we work harder after our boys grow up?”
“But that’s so many years,” Eve mumbled.
“Cheer up, Eve.” Ethan lifted her chin. “let’s go out on a dinner date tonight. I’ll buy you whatever food you want.”
“You’ll let me eat junk?” Eve stared at him cautiously.
“Yes, but a little,” Ethan agreed
Eve smiled and nodded rapidly. “You’ll take me out after a very long time. How can I turn this offer down?”
