Chapter 97: A Very Critical State

But Ethan wasn’t being too sensitive, he was just smarter than her to see the gynecologist’s actions coming.

As the weeks passed by, Sara’s actions became bolder and more provocative. She’d even resorted to dressing in short dresses without shoulder straps.

Sometimes, she’d even walk around the house in a tiny bikini, claiming she was going swimming. But even after returning from the pool, she’d take a long time before changing out of the bikini.

And the worse thing was… She would use the pretense to speak about Eve’s health in other to spend time with Ethan.

Sometimes, they’d be discussing until midnight as she explained some difficult medical terminologies to him.

“Eve, I know I’m not supposed to butt in, but you must take action before this girl snatches your husband.” Elena came to her room one day and advised, and Eve found it hard to handle the bitter truth.

“You also noticed it, Elena?”

“Everyone notices it,” Elena whispered. “Even the maids speak about it, Eve. Sara has ulterior motives. Can you believe she almost sat on your husband’s lap yesterday when we were at the beach?”

“Ah!” Eve stood up from the bed. “W–When did that happen?”

“Not long after you decided to come inside because you were tired. She was walking past the Young Master while he lounged on a recliner, and she dropped her sunscreen and pretended to slip.”

“What happened next?” Eve sat down and asked. “What did Ethan do?”

“I think the Young Master saw it coming, because he stood up and left,” Elena whispered again. “But you must act fast, Eve. You can trust the Young Master, but you can’t trust that girl not to use underhanded tricks to crawl into his bed.”

Eve gripped the hem of her dress while nodding. “Thank you, Elena. I’ll do something about it.”

And she waited for evening to come. After they all ate, dinner, Eve approached the girl and asked if she could speak with her privately.

“Sure, Mrs. Anderson. Let’s go to your room.”

“How about we discuss in your room, Sara? Ethan is already in our bedroom. He won’t like to be disturbed.”

“Oh.” The girl put on a disappointed look. “O–Okay. Please follow me to my room. I hope the conversation won’t be long. I have important things to discuss with Mr. Anderson later and it might take hours.”

Eve followed her to her room and sat on a chair beside the mirror. “Sara, do you value your job?”

“What kind of question is that?” The girl chortled. “Of course, I love my job, Mrs. Anderson. Now what do you want to discuss with me?”

“Good. Since you care about your job, I want you to observe professionalism and stop dressing provocatively around the house.”

“Huh?” The girl frowned. “Mrs. Anderson, I don’t see anything wrong with my dressing style. Don’t you know it is the trend nowadays?”

“But there’s a man in the house.”

“Ow.” Sara paused and forced a smile. “And I thought you weren’t gonna be difficult to deal with. Stop being insecure, Mrs. Anderson. I think the person you should speak with is your husband. It’s not my fault if he looks at me, don’t you think so?”

Eve sighed inside then rose to her feet and bid the girl goodnight. While she lay on the bed with eyes fixed on the ceiling, Sara was downstairs with Ethan, having her so-called conversation.

She left the bed and decided to eavesdrop on the balcony… She wasn’t speaking about anything tangible. In fact, she was trying to tell Ethan about her life story and her wild fantasies.

The next morning, Eve woke up and immediately asked Ethan to fire her.

“Don’t you like her anymore?” Ethan asked as he came out of the closet and sat on the bed.

“The hell I like that girl,” Eve grumbled while brushing her hair in front of the mirror. “I think she’s trying to covet you, Ethan. Didn’t you notice?”

“I did.”

“Why didn’t you do anything then?” Eve glanced over her shoulder and threw him a glare.

“You told me you will throw tantrums if I fire her, Eve. I was only following your orders.”

“Oh.” Eve dropped the brush and shook her head. “I made a bad judgment, Honey. Let’s get a new gynecologist.”

“Whatever you say.” Ethan shrugged. He stood up with his phone and walked out to the balcony while Eve continued working on her hair.

The new gynecologist they got turned out even worse than Sara. At first, the girl acted timid and innocent, but as time went by, her true colors began showing.

She didn’t dress provocatively, but one night, she pretended to see something scary in her room. Out of fear, Eve didn’t go but sent Ethan to check on her. And what did the girl do…

She locked Ethan in the room with her and stripped herself naked.

Eve didn’t have the strength to beat her up, so she asked the maids to do the job. Her next gynecologist was also a young girl.

Although that one didn’t try to seduce Ethan, she grew homesick and one day, they found her missing. She left without even saying goodbye. And while searching for her, Ethan got a call from the nearest port that she took one of the boats to leave the island.

In the end, Ethan decided to hire a middle-aged woman who specialized in traveling around with pregnant women.

When the woman came, the house was more lively than before as she and Elena grew very close and Eve had two older women to pamper her nonstop. But as the days passed by and her stomach grew bigger, so was her boredom and that unsettling feeling.

“Madam, here is your coconut.” One of the maids brought her fresh coconut with a straw in it as Eve lounged in a recliner, facing the vast blue ocean.

“Thanks, Camila.” Eve took it and slowly sipped at the liquid. She lifted one hand and rubbed her huge bump. Her delivery was almost due, sometimes she could swear she had contractions.

The warm air of the afternoon breezed past, dancing with her air and her eyes lingered on the clear blue sky.

Elena’s voice and her gynecologist’s voice floated from the distance as they chatted and laughed. While the maids played and splashed water on each other in the ocean, their giggles rippling through the atmosphere.

Eve kept caressing her stomach after dropping the now-empty coconut shell. She let her eyelids close and was almost dozing off when Ethan’s footsteps approached.

Opening her eyes, a smile formed on her lips but that smile disappeared immediately she saw the expression on his face.

Droplets of water trickled from his hair down to his bare chest. He must have rushed out of the swimming pool.

“Is something wrong?”

“We must go back immediately, Eve. Grandpa met with an accident. Matt said he’s in a very critical state.”
