Chapter 103 Clear The Misunderstandings
Watching from the window, Violet hoped her eyes weren't deceiving her.
As Clyde pulled her out by the hair and threw her out of the gates, she almost felt pity for the girl.
It was the middle of the night, after all.
However, whatever Cora was about to go through wasn't comparable to what she'd just made her go through, right?
It felt so real that she could still see the visions.
So it was all hallucinations.
It wasn't real.
Yet, her heart still broke inside thinking about it.
She wasn't herself yet despite the assurance that it was fake.
If she hadn't overheard Clyde's conversation with Cora, she would still believe that he cheated on her.
So, a hallucination could have this much effect.
Was it the same thing she experienced five years ago?
Because it all felt similar and familiar. Still, she couldn't see any reason why Clyde made her take those birth control pills.
Violet stood there for a long time, lost in her thoughts.
She didn't realize when Clyde returned. She didn't notice his presence until he hugged her from behind.
“Can't sleep?” He murmured to which she replied with a nod.
No other words explained.
No more explanations.
He knew she had realized the truth, and she knew she regretted almost killing him.
Were her actions due to just anger or also jealousy?
“She won't disturb us anymore, I promise,” Clyde added. “If she doesn't stop, I'll make sure she ends up in jail.”
Did he mean what he said?
If only Cora could disappear from their lives forever.
The girl could go to any lengths to get what she wanted. What if she never stopped?
“It's unhealthy to stay awake. Let's go to sleep.”
He led her back to the bed and she rested beside him.
So many questions flooded her mind despite the sudden serenity in her heart.
She stared into his eyes while he rubbed her shoulder gently. Clyde leaned in to kiss her forehead, repeating the words, “Go to sleep.”
But how could she sleep when her chest was heavy?
When there was still uncertainty in her heart, how could she ever find peace?
“You fed me birth control pills. Why?” She whispered.
Clyde paused for a few seconds. He stroked her chin, his transparent eyes betraying no emotion. “I'll tell you why some other day. But know that I'll never do anything to harm you, My Love.”
Some other day?
When?
Violet sighed inside.
The urge to sleep gradually returned and she nuzzled her face in his chest, letting his scent seep into her senses and warding off that strange fragrance.
The Next Morning,
Violet woke up alone on the bed.
She squinted her eyes, protecting them from the bright light flowing in from the transparent curtains.
The events that happened last night replayed in her mind.
Glancing at his side of the bed, her heart throbbed with a familiar ache.
Should she trust him?
Could she be patient enough to wait for him to finally open up?
Would that make her forgive him?
Violet glanced around the master bedroom. She'd promised never to step foot in here.
How ironic.
She washed up in the bathroom and got ready for the day.
Her clothes were intact inside his closet. Surprisingly, he'd added more.
After getting ready, the first thing she did was check up on her baby.
Violet found him helping Mimi put on her socks. Confused, she glanced at the wall clock.
“Good morning, Mummy! It's a bright day because Daddy's taking me to school!” Mimi's cheerful voice greeted her.
The sight of the little girl looking so happy melted Violet’s heart.
She sat beside her and picked up the hair brush. “Good morning, Baby. Didn't we agree that I'll take you to school?”
“It's no biggie. Both you and Daddy can come along.”
Violet's gaze traveled to the man.
For a few seconds, it felt awkward to be sitting there, recalling last night's scenarios.
“Good morning,” He murmured.
Violet quickly averted her gaze. “Mm. Good morning.”
The awkwardness only increased especially when he leaned forward to peck her on the cheek.
Her cheeks heated up, and she looked down, distracting herself by brushing Mimi's hair.
Violet didn't expect to find Mimi watching them with keen interest, her eyes shining. “Mummy, Daddy, so when are you guys going to give me a baby brother?”
Clyde coughed dryly and straightened up.
Violet stood up as well after quickly wrapping the girl's hair in a ponytail.
They ate breakfast and set off for Mimi's school.
She'd really wished that Clyde would make an excuse and head to the company instead, because throughout the ride, Mimi kept on pestering them.
“Mummy, when my Baby brother arrives, we'll all be friends with Matt. Oh, I bet Matt's already in school. I can't wait to give him the gifts.”
Her subject gradually strayed to that boy.
Grateful for that, Violet sighed in relief.
“You can also make friends with other students in your class, especially girls, Baby.” For some reason, Clyde didn't seem comfortable with Mimi’s enthusiasm as she spoke about the boy.
“Sure, I can. But Matt will always be my best friend!” Mimi replied.
Clyde frowned but he didn't add any words.
Obviously, he was displeased. Wasn't he being too paranoid?
Violet waited until they'd dropped Mimi off before she brought up the topic. “You know Mimi will be sad if she knows you don't like Matt.”
“Of all people, why does she have to befriend a boy on her first day?” Clyde grumbled in reply.
Seriously, Violet saw no problem with that. “They're just kids.”
Clyde sighed.
He gave her an incredulous look before changing the topic. “You'll accompany me to the gala, right? I promise you won't regret it.”
The car turned around, heading inside town to the route that led to his company.
Must she attend?
“Rumors have been flying around ever since you returned. Your appearance will shut a lot of gossip,” Clyde added. “Attending the gala will clear all the misunderstandings, Violet.”
