Chapter 112 Cherish Their Love
Violet arrived at Grandpa Luke's quarters to find the servants gathered in a corner outside.
They were so engrossed in gossiping that they didn't notice her.
“The Old Master appears mad today. Who do you think might have offended him?”
“Is it Mrs. Crawford again?”
“No, I don't think so. I overheard him making a phone call about someone's death. He mentioned the Young Master’s name.”
“Wait, is he mad at the Young Master?”
“Who knows? He has suddenly appeared in the mansion. It definitely isn't for something small.”
“Who died, by the way?”
“I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that it's a member of this family.”
Violet cleared her throat.
All the servants looked in her direction, having noticed her presence.
They all gasped at once and started stuttering.
“Y- Young Miss, when did you arrive?”
“We- We were busy discussing work. Sorry, we didn't notice you.”
“It's not what you're thinking, Young Miss-”
“Shut up, all of you!” The Butler arrived. “If you don't want to lose your jobs, stop gossiping around.”
The servants quickly dispersed.
Violet sighed and walked up to the middle-aged man. “Mr. Brown, how's Grandpa?”
“He's not in a good mood.” The Butler sighed as well. “After receiving the evidence this morning, he fainted twice. I just hope the Young Master has an explanation.”
So there was evidence.
The worry inside Violet’s heart multiplied.
Clyde definitely wouldn't commit that kind of sin.
There had to be a mistake.
She entered Grandpa Luke's quarters and his loud voice boomed all the way from the living room.
“Answer me, Clyde! What exactly did you do!?”
Apart from the old man's voice, Violet could also hear the sound of his cane hitting something hard.
She gasped as she peeked through the door.
“You knew it all the time where she was, while we suffered looking for her! You also hired men to cause her mysterious death! How are you going to explain this to your mother!?”
Clyde didn't say a word.
He just stood there, letting the Old Man hit him with his cane.
Grandpa Luke appeared greatly exhausted.
Before the Butler arrived, the old man passed out again.
Violet barged inside the living room. She knelt beside the old man, supporting him as the Butler sprinkled water on him.
Grandpa Luke woke up after a few seconds.
He sent a murderous look in Clyde's direction and shouted, “You can stop thinking about becoming the chairman of the CJ Group.”
And then, he fainted again.
Violet stood up, glancing between Clyde and the unconscious man.
Despite looking unbothered, Clyde picked up the telephone and summoned the family's doctor.
He left without a word.
Seriously, Violet didn't know what was wrong with him.
Why didn't he explain everything to his grandfather?
“Why don't you tell him the truth?” She was hurrying after him again, going fast to catch up with his stride. “Will you just leave him in suspense?”
It's obvious that this matter had taken a huge toll on the old man's health.
Besides, he'd threatened him with the chairman's position.
Wasn't that what Herman coveted?
Wasn't that why he set him up?
“It is the truth.” Clyde didn't start the car and he rested his forehead on the steering wheel. “I hid her in that Villa. I hired those men.”
No way!
Violet couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Then, did he?
“No,” he replied as if reading her mind. “Am I a fool to kill my own sister? Clearly, Grandpa has misunderstood. But it's difficult to explain the situation.”
Hearing his answer, Violet sighed in relief.
She couldn't live with the fact that Clyde would admit to killing his own sister.
“How complicated is the situation?” She asked.
It shouldn't be so complicated that nobody would believe the truth, right?
“As complicated as me unintentionally giving out orders to get rid of her.” Clyde sighed heavily. “I almost believed that until we found out later that the guy who did that wasn't one of the gang I hired. He is from a rival gang and had a mission to mess up their job.”
So his sister's death was caused by a feud between two gangs.
A well-planned accident.
“My only mistake was indulging her and hiding her in that Villa. I'd rather see her forced into the marriage than have her die for nothing.”
Violet understood his point.
But nobody else could.
He'd committed a mistake by hiding his sister while his family searched for her. His grandfather and others would blame him for that.
If he hadn't hidden Anna, then she wouldn't have died that way.
His protection ended up taking her life. What an irony.
“And you've kept it hidden for so many years?” She glanced at him, noticing the bruises on his arm caused by Grandpa Luke's cane.
“I go to sleep every night thinking about it,” Clyde confessed. “Maybe this is my karma. I don't deserve that position.”
But he deserved it more than his Uncle.
Hiding that kind of truth from his family would save a lot of hearts from breaking. And he had to live with the guilt forever.
Shifting close, Violet gave him a side hug. “No matter what happens, you have to clear your name. They have to believe that you didn't do it on purpose.”
“You're the only person who believes me,” He murmured. “Which is insane. I've hurt you, Violet, but you chose to believe me from the start before hearing the whole story.”
Maybe she was being biased.
Maybe she still had feelings for him.
Despite convincing herself that she was more worried about his reputation affecting their baby, Violet was still concerned about him.
This wasn't right.
She wasn't supposed to fall in love again.
She couldn't love him twice.
Or maybe she never stopped loving him, and her feelings were only suppressed by the pain he caused her.
“Your trust alone is enough.” He kissed her hair. “I'll never forget this moment. I'll cherish our love forever, Violet.”
