Chapter 113 Seeing Another Woman
…
That Evening.
Without a sense of direction, Asher drove down the city.
He'd been driving for a long time and the sky was turning dark.
Yet, he couldn't stop, the turmoil inside his heart increasing.
Without any sense of direction, he could be anywhere else but that hotel.
He couldn't go back there and share the same suite with her.
He couldn't repeat the same mistake he made the night before.
Till now, his mind wasn't at ease. For a long time, he'd preserved himself, vowing that he'd never touch a woman who wasn't his wife.
He'd broken that vow, his biggest regret. Now he had to live with the guilt and the feelings of hate.
The fact that he reminisced about that moment last night and still longed to touch her made him more disgusted with himself.
His phone rang beside him.
Asher let go of the steering wheel and picked it up.
Seeing his assistant’s name on the screen, he hesitated. “What's up?”
“Are you on your way back, Mr. Sydney?” James sounded worried. “I'm sure the business conference was over hours ago. She's getting worried.”
“I'll be back soon,” Was his only response to James despite planning to do the opposite.
But she must be standing beside the assistant, probably listening to him make the phone call. Asher couldn't say anything that would make her feel sad.
He resumed driving, lost in his thoughts again when the phone rang once more.
James again.
“Is there anything important you want to tell me?” Asher was a bit impatient.
Coupled with the disturbing thoughts in his mind, he had to put up with the assistant's disturbance.
James sighed. “Mr. Sydney, are you not worried about disappointing her? She's becoming sad.”
Asher slowed down.
Well, what choice was he left with?
“I can't come back. You know what happened last night,” He murmured to the assistant who didn't seem to understand the point.
“Mr. Sydney, I get you,” James replied. “Besides, you're both adults and can keep it all a secret after she recovers-”
“You!” Asher didn't let him finish speaking, and he hung up.
He couldn't believe the assistant's words.
Keep things a secret.
How sure was he that she wouldn't be heartbroken about this once she regained her memories?
She surely would be mad at and hate him as well for lying to her and also taking advantage of her.
To avoid more disturbance from James, Asher put his phone on silent.
He accelerated the car to clear his mind fast, driving into a dark area of the city, an empty road with a lot of alleyways connecting it to the other streets.
In the next moment, however, he pressed hard on the brakes as a slender figure breezed out of nowhere and almost crashed into the car.
The car came to a screeching halt, causing him to bump his forehead into the steering wheel in the process.
Damn!
He cursed as a pain shot through his head.
Before Asher registered it, blood flowed down his forehead, staining the side of his face.
He looked up to find the figure still standing there, panic-stricken as if frozen.
Asher gasped.
She must have gasped as well as her lips parted.
Was he hallucinating?
His eyes were deceiving him, right?
“Y- You, Ash. What are you doing in this kind of place?” She wobbled forward and gripped the window shield, her whole body trembling like a leaf.
Without waiting for his reply, she hurried to the other side and jumped into the passenger’s seat. “Quick! Get me out of here!”
Asher should be asking her the same question unless his eyes were deceiving him.
But he quickly followed her instruction and restarted the car, sensing the danger around her.
She appeared dazed with panic, her eyes darting to the rearview mirror as if searching for someone in these empty streets.
“Is everything alright? Why're you in this place, Freya? Where's Violet?”
But she didn't answer him. Her whole body still shook and she wrapped both arms around herself tightly.
Asher could guess what was happening.
Why was Freya alone, though?
Where was Violet?
Was she alright?
“I'll take you to safety, don't worry,” He assured, despite finding the whole situation confusing.
He drove out of that neighborhood and headed inside the city.
The hospital came into view and he was about to head there when she let out a small scream,
“No! Not the hospital.” Freya stared at him, her widened eyes raw with fear. “Th- They might find me there. Please take me anywhere but the hospital!”
Seriously?
Who was she referring to?
Was her life in danger as he'd guessed?
“We'll go to the Cops.” Asher accelerated the car's speed,
But then, she stopped him once more. “Can't you see I'm anxious and terrified? I- I just want a place to hide! Take me anywhere but the hospital or cops department!”
Asher sighed.
He had a lot of questions in his mind. Well, he couldn't ask them due to her unstable state.
Thankfully, he sighted a mortel nearby.
He drove into the place, parked his car, and helped her out.
She was still trembling even as he took her inside the place. Asher booked a room for the night.
He was sure that by morning, she would come back to herself and would be willing to see the Cops.
“Sir, you're wounded. Should I get you someone to treat your wound?” The receptionist asked, glancing from him to the lady in his arms.
Asher shook his head. “Just bring me a first-aid box.”
They headed to the first room on the first floor and settled down.
Asher took off his bloodied jacket while Freya lay on the couch, curling herself in a fetal position.
“Hey, you can speak to me now.” He sat beside her. “Relax, Freya… you're safe.”
Freya sniffled.
She sat up and hugged him.
Several minutes passed by while she sobbed in his arms, and he patiently waited, patting her back gently.
“I'm scared, Ash…” She spoke finally. “Those lunatics… they almost killed me-”
“What's this, Asher?” Suddenly, another female voice sounded in the room after the door was pushed open. “Is she the reason why you're avoiding me? Are you seeing another woman?”
She stood beside the door, her expression a mix of hurt and betrayal as tears gathered in her eyes.
