Chapter 38 Making Him Jealous
Shaking her head, Violet returned his smile.
Although she would love to leave this place, she couldn't leave her daughter behind.
Not in Clyde's hands.
“It's okay. I'm fine.”
Aside from that, she was relieved that Asher didn't think much about Clyde's words.
He must have brought up that topic to anger him.
Violet slowed down her footsteps, focusing on her thoughts instead of Clyde's conversation with Mimi.
Completely aware of the storm brewing behind her, she walked hand in hand with Asher towards the noodles stand.
If looks could kill, she and Asher would have probably dropped dead by now.
Funny how she could feel Clyde's presence no matter how hard she ignored it.
She could feel his anger and annoyance.
Despite his light tone as he conversed with her baby, the hidden rage underneath the surface couldn't be overlooked.
Finally, they arrived at that spot.
The noodles tasted great as Violet had imagined.
On a long table, she sat across from Asher, while Clyde sat across from Mimi as the noodles were served.
“It smells so delicious, Mummy.” Mimi giggled and picked up her fork. “But not as delicious as Daddy's noodles I bet.”
“You're very smart.” Clyde chortled. “How about I make one for you when we go home?”
“Yay! That would be great!” Mimi jumped up. “I can't wait to taste your noodles, Daddy. Please don't back out of your promise.”
“I never back out of my promise, Baby,” Clyde replied, but stared at Violet, giving her a serious look. “I've never backed out of it.”
Why did she feel more like Clyde was trying to intimidate her?
Violet knew those words were directed at her.
She didn't need to be told what Clyde's intentions were.
What home was he referring to?
It mustn't be…
“Uncle Ash, Daddy told me I have a second grandma and grandpa in IvoryHills City. My Grandmas and Grandpas are now three. Isn't that great?”
“The more the merrier, huh?” Asher laughed. “You must be the luckiest little girl.”
“Uhuh.” Mimi bobbed her head. “So can we visit them at IvoryHills soon? Can we use your helicopter?”
Clyde had already told Mimi about his parents.
Wasn't he taking things too fast?
Rubbing her forehead tiredly, Violet sighed inside.
Suddenly, she'd lost the appetite to eat. Just the thought of Clyde's parents alone was enough to send her nerves jostling.
“We don't need his helicopter,” Clyde stated in reply to Mimi's request. “We can use my private jet, Baby.”
“You have a private jet?” Mimi widened her eyes.
Clyde smiled proudly, throwing a triumphant look in Asher's direction. “I have more than one. We can travel the world if you want.”
“Wow, Daddy, you're amazing!” Mimi gave him two thumbs-up, her proud smile matching Clyde's.
She'd thought her baby resembled her, but now Violet realized where she got her smile from,
And also her mischievous side.
Mimi was all over her father.
Was she doing it intentionally, or was she just too excited?
“Vi, you're no longer eating…” Asher called her attention. “Weren't you hungry?”
Strangely, Violet could no longer feel that hunger.
Hearing Clyde's parents’ name had already thrown her into a bad mood.
Well, at least his parents did pretend to like her.
But was she going to allow her baby to meet that couple?
Lost in her thoughts again, she didn't know when Asher scooped up the noodles in his fork and reached out to feed her.
Violet found herself chewing the noodles carefreely, despite a particular someone throwing lasers at her with his eyes.
She almost rolled her eyes at the moody man, but then, ignoring him was the best thing.
Violet focused her attention on Asher who made her eat the noodles. “You should also eat.”
“Watching you eat…” Asher winked at her. “I'm already full, Honey.”
Violet smiled.
Would she be able to do this if she was alone with Asher?
But Clyde’s presence made her confident somehow.
It mustn't be that she was intentionally trying to make him jealous.
Damnit! She was already over him for goodness sake!
“Daddy, be careful. You might choke on the noodles.”
Clyde probably couldn't handle the sight, and he buried his head in his noodles, eating rapidly and inciting Mimi's worry.
“There's soup on your chin, Daddy.” Mimi handed a tissue to him.
But instead of using the tissue to wipe the soup, Clyde suddenly spat the noodles in it.
“Daddy, are you alright? Do you need water?” She grabbed the bottle of water and tried to open it.
But Clyde was already on his feet.
Patting his chest, he grabbed more tissue and hurried away.
“Hey, Daddy, wait up! What's the matter, Daddy?” The little girl rushed after him.
Violet could only blink.
She'd never seen Mimi acting so considerate and concerned before.
She never knew her daughter had this personality.
Why did she care so much about that heartless man?
Instinctively, Violet rose to her feet to chase after her.
If she could get Mimi away from Clyde, then they could leave as soon as possible.
Clyde was so fast, and Mimi scurried to catch up.
Violet already guessed that the man was reacting to the food and had probably gone off to throw up somewhere. While Clyde was busy, she could just take Mimi away.
But her daughter's scream brought a new anxiety to her heart.
Mimi tripped on a small rock ahead, and her knees hit the ground.
“Mimi!” Violet gasped and hurried to where the little girl sat, sobbing.
However, Clyde was there before her and he picked her up. “Shhhh, it's okay, Baby, I'm here.”
He tried to touch her bruised knee, but she winced.
Rubbing her teary eyes, Mimi sniffled. “Daddy, can you not be too fast next time? Were you trying to run off again? Please don't leave me, okay, Daddy?”
