Chapter 39 A Familiar Spell
How would he be able to leave her?
Clyde only wanted to find somewhere private and throw up the horrible food Violet called the best noodles in the world.
He'd never tasted something so bland and spicy.
Violet must have done this intentionally.
Ever since they arrived here, she'd been looking for excuses to take Mimi away.
She even resorted to summoning Asher here and putting up that stupid act in his presence.
True. He wasn't so thick-skinned when it came to her.
Clyde couldn't believe that he'd let Violet's provocation affect him.
Now he regretted it.
Mimi's knee was bleeding and it was all his fault.
The little girl seemed to be in so much pain as she clung to him tightly.
“I'm not leaving, Baby. Let's get out of here,” he murmured, patting her hair gently. If only that would take away her pain.
Clyde pressed on the Bluetooth on his ear, summoning the bodyguards. “Get the car ready.”
He walked away, but Violet stopped him.
Her eyes betrayed no emotion. She looked so fearful as if he was going to hurt their daughter. “Give her to me. I'll handle it.”
A frown formed on his face.
Clyde wasn't a fool.
The moment he let Mimi go, Violet would surely run off with her.
“No need,” He declined and resumed walking.
Well, he saw it coming that she wouldn't let him off easily.
Violet quickly blocked his path, giving him an almost pleading look. “Clyde-”
“I know what you're thinking,” Clyde murmured, hating what he was going to say next.
But he wasn't a monster.
Not as she'd envisioned.
He wasn't a jerk either, the way she thought.
He was only mad at her for thinking she could use another man to make him jealous. “I won't go off with her without your consent. Stop fretting.”
Well, she didn't believe him. Probably because of what he did in the morning.
But Clyde wouldn't have left the Villa with Mimi if the little girl hadn't insisted he took her to the mall.
He'd specifically gone there to tell Violet some things she might not want to hear.
“Clyde, just give her to me.” Violet stepped forward. “I told you I'll handle it.”
While his daughter's leg bled, she was more concerned with arguing over who took her to the hospital.
Clyde scoffed and handed Mimi to her.
It wasn't like they were leaving without him anyway.
The moment he gave her the girl, Violet hurried off.
She headed straight to the parking lot and Asher followed her.
If fighting in public wasn't an offense, he would have punched the man in the guts.
“Daddy! Daddy! I want my Daddy!”
Mimi's calls as Violet took her away made his heart throb painfully.
Clyde wasn't just gonna stand here.
He didn't care what Violet thought about him.
He had a mission, and no matter how much fight she put up, she would definitely give in in the end.
At the parking lot, Violet headed to where Asher stood with his car's door open.
All Clyde needed was a glance in the bodyguards’ direction.
They knew what to do.
In the next few minutes, Violet was sitting again in the backseat of his car with Mimi and giving him the fiercest glare he'd ever received from her.
Clyde didn't mind.
His attention was on his daughter who had stopped crying and was sleeping on her lap.
The bruise must be so painful. She sniffled even in her sleep.
“You're so-”
“Despicable, I know.” Clyde completed her words, glancing at her. “This matter concerns my daughter. It's my responsibility.”
“Really?” She raised a brow, giving him an incredulous look. “How awesome it must feel to be an intruder.”
Was he an intruder?
Didn't he have the right to see to the safety of his daughter?
“Mimi obviously prefers my company.” Clyde glared back. “You can't deny that.”
But she only gave him a small smile, giving him a pitiful stare in fact. “It's just a fleeting infatuation of being too excited from meeting you for the first time. Stop wasting your time.”
She spoke with confidence as if she was a hundred percent sure about it.
She might be right.
But that didn't mean it would faze him. “We shall see.”
Violet rolled her eyes.
Leaning against the seat, she closed her eyes and murmured tiredly, “Clyde, just leave us alone. All this is unnecessary.”
If it was unnecessary, would he have wasted his precious time?
He knew what he was doing.
“I'm serious, Violet. Our marriage is still valid. Put an end to this game.”
She didn't reply.
She kept her eyes closed, rubbing a finger against her forehead gently.
She'd heard him but ignored.
Clyde stared at her face… Those features he'd been dying to see again.
She didn't age a bit. Nothing changed about her.
Except for the color of her hair. It used to be darker.
Bound by a familiar spell, Clyde found it hard to look away.
As if memorizing her features, he couldn't tear his eyes off her face until they focused on that spot.
Her lips.
Were they still as soft as they used to be?
His curiosity got the best of him and he leaned forward until their noses were almost touching.
Clyde swallowed, a sudden desire burning inside him.
Well, he was rational enough to know that this wasn't the right place and moment.
Yet, his irrational part almost got the best of him until he forced himself to pull away.
Violet opened her eyes in that second, and a scorching slap landed across his face.
He hadn't seen it coming. It was too late to dodge it.
She stared at him as if he was the craziest pervert, even shifting away to maintain a distance.
“A- Are you crazy?” She whispered, her eyes darting to the girl who was still sleeping soundly.
Clyde was relieved the sound didn't wake her up.
How could he handle this embarrassment in his daughter's presence?
Rubbing his cheek, he murmured, “You really are something, Violet.”
“Back off,” She scoffed.
“I would… if I wasn't your husband.”
