Chapter 40 His Patience

~

It took two hours for his car to get repaired.

Asher couldn't believe it.

Would Clyde really stoop this low to get what he wanted?

Right under his watch, he had the bodyguards deflate the tires of his car.

It was a funny but ridiculous thing. Asher had no other choice but to let Violet go with him.

And he regretted it.

What were they up to?

Why wasn't she back yet?

They were supposed to go to the hospital and have Mimi's bruise treated. Something that could be handled with a simple first aid.

Pacing back and forth outside the large doors, he glanced at the gates now and then, anticipating their return.

It was almost evening.

It shouldn't be that Clyde took them away, did he?

Damn!

What was he thinking?

Of course, Clyde would take them away at any opportunity he got.

Asher shouldn't have let them go… but he'd expected Violet to up a protest which she didn't.

She'd willingly followed Clyde to his car.

“M- Master, don't worry. I'm sure they'll be back.” The maid stood behind him, shivering as she spoke.

Right.

Violet would.

Even if Clyde tried to take her away, she would still come back to him.

She'd, after all, chosen him and not her ex-husband.

Yet, as the hours passed by, Asher wished he at least knew which hospital they went to.

He'd asked his assistant to track them, but Clyde had outsmarted them this time.

Did he need to be worried?

Asher continued pacing, his anxiousness increasing with each moment.

He was almost on the verge of leaving the Villa and scouring the whole city for them…

But the gates opened from the outside and she appeared.

Hugging Mimi against her chest, she looked greatly exhausted.

Asher frowned, walking up to her as fast as he could.

Her disheveled hair and the wariness in her eyes had him convinced that something was wrong.

“What happened?” He asked, supporting her as she almost tripped.

But Violet said nothing.

She handed Mimi, who was sound asleep, to him, and walked past him, dragging her feet into the house.

The maid said something to her and she waved her hand dismissively.

What the hell happened?

Did Clyde do something to her?

Asher couldn't control his anger as all sorts of scenarios played in his mind.

He followed her into the house, but not until he'd asked the maid what she said.

“I don't think she's hungry, Master. She told me she won't eat dinner.”

Was that it?

Maybe she'd eaten outside.

Inside the Villa, He took Mimi upstairs to her room.

He didn't find Violet in that bedroom, so he guessed she was inside the guest room.

Asher stood outside, knocking for a while. He had no choice but to walk inside when her reply didn't come.

There, he found her sitting on the bed and hugging the pillow.

She had a far-off look on her face as if lost in her thoughts.

What was she thinking?

What exactly happened?

Asher didn't have a good feeling about this. If only he could read her mind.

“Violet.”

She returned to the present the moment he said her name.

Violet stared at him, then she looked away almost immediately.

That only confused him further.

“What happened between you and Clyde?” He looked into her eyes, reading every emotion. “Did he-”

“It's nothing.” She shook her head and smiled.

It was scary how she could put up a normal front so easily.

“Nothing?”

Asher wasn't buying that.

She returned looking like a drenched rabbit.

Clyde must be the cause.

“Ash…” She sighed and shifted close. What she did next baffled him as she hugged him suddenly.

It was unlike Violet to initiate any kind of contact first.

What had come over her?

“Can I request something?” She whispered. And she didn't wait for him to speak before she added, “Let’s leave this city. We'll go to a place where no one can find us. I know everything you love is here, but can you please…?”

She trailed off and stared at him with pleading eyes.

The fear inside them was clearly transparent.

Why did she want to go away?

She was right that everything he loved was here.

If it was about Clyde-

“Violet, I'm not afraid of anything,” Asher reassured her. “The only thing I fear is losing you. Don't be scared.”

She shook her head and opened her mouth.

But Asher couldn't let her continue speaking.

He wasn't a coward to run from an opponent.

Sooner or later, he would have Clyde realize that he'd never stand a chance in Violet's life.

Shushing her gently by placing a finger on her lips, he went on. “Besides, I won't let the same thing happen again. It was my fault that he was able to come and go easily. I have tightened the security in this Villa, okay?”

Violet nodded.

Yet, she seemed to have many things to say.

Probably to convince him to fulfill her request.

However, he couldn't leave the company behind.

He couldn't let go of his responsibility all because of Clyde Crawford.

“I… uhm, I'll wash up.” She pulled away. “Good night, I guess.”

Was she sleeping in the guest room again tonight?

Asher couldn't hide his disappointment despite wanting to.

They were supposed to share the same bedroom.

They were a couple, after all.

Hesitantly, he let go of her and watched as she walked to the bathroom.

He'd have to remind himself again and again to take things easy.

He wouldn't do anything to scare her off. After all, he'd been patient enough for many years.

He could still exercise the same amount of patience.

But his words betrayed his actions.

Asher didn't know what came over him. Suddenly, he found himself caging her between the bathroom wall.

Violet yelped, her pupils constricting in fear. “A- Ash…” She stammered. “Are you alright?”

Asher knew he wasn't.

He didn't know what was happening to him.

“Will you tell me what exactly happened between you and Clyde? Don't lie to me, Violet!”
