Chapter 41 A Scandal
…
At Eden Suites Hotel.
Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, Clyde's mind, as well as his thoughts, were somewhere else despite his gaze fixated on the city down below.
His mind pondered the same word again and again,
He wasn't sure if she would grant his request.
He wasn't confident that Violet wouldn't disappoint him.
After all, he was now a different person in her eyes.
She wouldn't give in just easily despite telling him that she'd think about it, giving him a little hope.
Back at the hospital, he'd wished the visit would last longer. He couldn't let them go, but he had to because she'd given him a condition.
What if she didn't fulfill her promise, though?
His phone rang, cutting through the deep silence inside the suite.
Staring at the contact display name, Clyde contemplated if he should answer it or not.
All he knew was that a phone call from his grandfather wasn't always good news.
He would either receive an earful or get impossible instructions.
Ever since Violet left him, a lot had changed including his grandfather's love for him.
Clyde sighed.
Not answering the phone call would be another problem too.
As soon as he pressed the answer button, the old man's grumpy voice resounded. “Clyde Crawford, aren't you the black sheep of the family!?”
What did he do this time?
His grandfather sounded more angry than usual.
What could have happened behind his back?
“Grandpa-”
“Don't Grandpa me!” Shouted the old man. “You look so great in those photos with that girl! Tell me, was she the reason why you chased my granddaughter-in-law away?”
Clyde was flustered a bit.
What girl was the old man referring to?
What photos?
He'd always believed that Clyde had a hand in Violet's disappearance.
Although his actions played a part in it, his grandfather strongly believed that he sent her away.
“Cat got your tongue?” His grandfather scoffed. “I was hoping you could turn a new leaf, Clyde, so I can consider giving you that position. But now, you're beyond saving. How could you cause such a scandal for my family?”
Seriously, Clyde had no idea what his grandfather was saying.
What scandal exactly? “Can you go to the point, Grandpa?”
“Stop acting as if you don't know! Do you even deserve to become the head of this family?”
“Grandpa-”
His grandfather hung up immediately, leaving him confused and wary.
The chairman's position.
The old man had always threatened him with it, but now he sounded so serious to take it away.
Clyde sat on the couch beside the window, holding his forehead.
Damnit!
Violet was his only hope.
Would she fulfill her promise of going to IvoryHills City with him or not?
His phone beeped with notification sounds and the screen lit up again.
Staring at the messages from his grandfather, Clyde hesitated to tap into it.
But his curiosity got over him, and he was in for one of the biggest shocks of his life.
When he tapped into the message and saw those photos, his heart literally skipped for a second.
Clyde sprang to his feet, his fingers curling hard against the phone.
Rage boiled inside him, threatening to erupt, anger clouding his vision instantly.
Who took those photos of him and Cora?
Who the hell was tired of their lives?
They were so good at Photoshop that not a single defect could be found.
Clyde deleted those dirty images instantly. It was no wonder his grandfather was madly enraged.
He quickly dialed the old man's number who only answered after several rings. “You can now stop acting like a saint. You've disappointed me big time, Grandson! What if those photos leak out and our rivals see them?”
“It's a lie, Grandpa.” Clyde clenched his fists. “Those weren't real.”
“I wasn't born yesterday!” The old man shouted, piercing his eardrums. “I've always suspected your relationship with that girl, Clyde, and now that it has come to light-”
“Grandpa, no!”
Somehow, Clyde had an eerie feeling about what the old man might say next.
He had to cut him off on time.
Indeed, his relationship with Cora was complicated. But it wasn't that kind of relationship.
“I've found Violet.” He changed the topic. “We're currently in Metro City, Grandpa. Violet is with my daughter.”
A deadly silence fell, putting a stop to the old man's outburst.
For a minute straight, he didn't speak.
Clyde almost thought that the call was disconnected until his grandfather's voice sounded. “Clyde Crawford, I'm not your playmate! Stop pulling my legs.”
“Grandpa, it's the truth.” Clyde sighed inside.
He didn't mean to break it to the old man this way.
He'd wanted it to be a surprise when he returned to IvoryHills with Violet.
“And you said she has my great-grandchild?” His grandfather sounded suspicious. “Prove it!”
He hung up.
Clyde had no choice but to send him Violet’s and Mimi's photos.
Fortunately, he'd snapped them inside the car while he took them back to the Villa Estates.
They were both asleep, and it had been easy without Violet’s disapproval.
The minute he sent those photos, his grandfather's call came in.
“Th- That… That's indeed Violet, Grandson!” The old man exclaimed. “And that little girl is truly a Crawford heiress. Bring them immediately, Grandpa can't wait to meet them.”
Clyde breathed out a sigh of relief.
Hopefully, Violet wouldn't disappoint him.
“Don't worry, Grandpa will take care of this scandal. None of these photos will go out. Since your family has returned, come back and settle down.”
His grandfather made it sound so easy.
The old man's anger was instantly gone, and he was now treating him like before.
Violet was indeed the key to his grandfather's heart.
If only she could cooperate fast with him without a hassle.
“I will, Grandpa. Just give me some time.”
“Why?” The old man sounded confused. “Since you've found your family, what are you still doing? Stop any business collaboration right now and bring them to me tonight!”
That was the old man's last instruction.
Wiping his face in frustration, Clyde sat down.
He dialed Violet's contact again and again. The call didn't connect.
She had blocked him!
