Chapter 49 Overprotective!

Violet struggled to remain calm despite her heart racing at the moment.

She never thought that she'd wake up to this huge shock.

How the hell did he get here?

Hadn't he been sitting in a chair on the opposite row beside Mimi?

Well now, Clyde wasn't only sleeping beside her. He was almost lying on top of her, his breathing ragged and his hot breath fanning against her neck.

Yet, the shameless man didn't show any signs of embarrassment.

He even had the guts to make fun of the situation.

Hopefully, he couldn't hear her heartbeat. Hopefully, he realized that she meant what she said and could even punch him in the face.

Freya was right behind them.

Damnit!

Violet wished her best friend was fast asleep and didn't witness it.

She pushed the man off her, letting the blanket fall in the process.

Violet didn't mind the cold.

The desire to sleep had long left her already, all thanks to the shameless man beside her.

She shifted away, maintaining a safe distance from him.

Now she regretted coming along.

But she couldn't stay back and just watch him take her baby away.

Her decision must have been rapid, but Violet knew what she was doing.

In that split second when she saw Clyde taking her baby away, she'd calculated all the odds and outcomes and realized that she would still lose in the end.

Clyde could use what happened as proof that she wasn't capable of taking care of Mimi.

That single proof alone was enough for the court to grant him Mimi's custody.

Besides, Violet had already made up her mind.

Come whatever may, she wasn't gonna let Mimi be alone with Clyde or his family.

To distract herself from thinking about the annoying man, she stared out of the window.

But her mind betrayed her.

She couldn't control it from wandering to moments ago.

Violet had been deeply asleep and his movements woke her up.

If she wasn't mistaken, that evil man had touched her.

The soft caress she felt on her lips… his fingers stroking her back;

Violet shuddered.

It must be just a dream. She must have imagined it.

Gradually, IvoryHills City came into view, the tiny buildings turning into huge skyscrapers.

As the plane landed in the private airport that belonged to the CJ Group, Violet shut her eyes.

This was it.

There was no turning back.

Never had she had a fleeting thought that she would ever return to this city.

A city where she experienced the best moments of her life, it was also in the same city that her heart got broken beyond repair.

“Ah, finally! We're here!” Freya yawned, and she stood up and stretched.

Violet's muscles were stiff as well.

All thanks to the man who thought she was a better pillow, her left shoulder ached like hell.

She left the chair and pushed past him, hurrying to where her baby rested.

Violet couldn't wait to hold her.

Even after they left the hospital, Clyde didn't let her look at the sleeping girl as he hugged her tightly to his chest.

Even now,

“What are you doing?”

As Violet tried to carry her baby, the man's intimidating voice stopped her.

In the next second, he was beside them. He picked the girl up instead. “She's asleep. You'll wake her.”

Well, Violet just wanted to hold her. Was that too much to ask?

Probably sensing her anger, Clyde added. “You're also weak. You won't be able to carry her.”

Then he walked away.

Violet couldn't help but stare at his back.

“Oh, isn't Mr. Crawford so considerate?” Freya came to stand beside her, her tone full of mockery.

“Unfortunately, he's a jerk!” Violet scoffed. Should she also add ‘pervert?’

Seriously, if she wanted to keep her sanity, she had to stay very far away from him.

Nodding in agreement, Freya placed a palm on her shoulder. “Don't worry, Vi. I'll protect you while we're here. Your ex-husband is the kind of man who gets things done his own way. I won't let you fall for his tricks.”

Violet hugged her as a sign of thanks.

Honestly, she was afraid of what was to come.

She wasn't ready to face his family yet. She didn't know what he had in store for her.

She really appreciated Freya's coming along, even though it was a last-minute decision.

If Freya was by her side, maybe she would be able to win this battle.

“By the way, have you told Asher about it?”

Freya's question suddenly reminded Violet.

She couldn't help but slap her forehead.

How come she'd almost forgotten about Asher?

But the events happened back to back. She didn't get the opportunity.

Definitely, Asher wouldn't welcome the idea, and it was already too late.

Violet searched for her phone and found it sitting on a chair’s armrest in the left row.

Funny how her phone ended up there when she'd slept on the chair in the right row.

Disregarding the confusion, she dialed Asher's contact while heading out of the plane with Freya.

The phone rang until it stopped. He didn't answer it.

Violet dialed his number again until she glanced at the time.

Due to the time zone difference, it was already morning here, but it must still be the middle of the night back at Metro City.

She put her phone away, keeping in mind to give him a call as soon as it was morning in the other city.

Outside the plane,

Clyde was already getting inside the car with Mimi, and they joined them.

Violet didn't plan to sit beside him, but Freya had already taken over the passenger’s seat.

And while Clyde held Mimi, pressing on his phone, she used the opportunity to stroke her baby's hair.

“You'll wake her up.” His voice made her fingers halt mid-air. “Hands off, Violet.”

Urgh!

Violet rolled her eyes and faced the window instead.

How she hated him!

Wasn't he too overprotective?

She couldn't wait to arrive at whatever destination Clyde was taking them. She couldn't wait to get out of his proximity.

The car ride wasn't long.

Ten minutes later, the driver pulled over in front of an enormous hotel.

“We'll meet Grandpa in the evening. Cora's waiting inside already. She'll help you get prepared while I attend to some matters in the company.”

Violet didn't need that much explanation, because her mind could only register the name ‘Cora’
