Chapter 50 Another Man's Ring
…
Inside The Hotel.
Cora sighed, leaning against the window, her gaze fixed on the scenery below.
How funny!
How devastating!
How ridiculous!
So Clyde hadn't been kidding with her. He really had found Violet.
Not only that, but that wench had a child!?
Wasn't her whole life a joke then?
Would she be able to believe her reality anymore?
Thinking she was far ahead and could handle the situation, Cora had never looked forward to this sudden blow.
When Clyde had informed her on the phone, she wished she was dreaming.
At first, she'd been confused. After all, the man only went to the point, telling her that he was bringing Violet and his daughter to IvoryHills.
She should be prepared. She should help them get ready!
Oh, she would.
Folding her hands, her lips twitched, curling up slightly at the end.
Violet Harris.
She'd underestimated her once more. Who would ever expect that she'd been carrying a Crawford heiress when she ran away?
An heiress… a child for the Crawford family.
No! It couldn't be!
Not on her watch!
Clyde didn't come out of the car but Violet did as well as a lady who looked the same age.
Then two bodyguards stepped out from the hotel and approached them.
That was when one of them brought the kid out.
Despite squinting her eyes, Cora couldn't get a clear view of the kid’s face due to the height distance.
But there was this tugging strange feeling that the girl felt familiar.
Watching from the tall building was only a waste of time.
She'd rather be patient and wait until they appeared in the suite. Besides, hadn't she been patient her whole life?
She strolled away from the window and sat on the couch, picking up a wine glass from the table across it.
Cora sipped the wine leisurely. If only it could tame the raging anger inside her.
When her phone's screen lit up with Clyde’s name flashing on it, she smiled and answered it. “Hey, Honey…”
“I've dropped them off at the hotel. Do a good job, Cora,” His authoritative voice sounded.
Cora chortled, twirling the wine glass. “What's my reward, Honey?”
“Whatever you want,” He said flatly, his tone nonchalant and calm. And then he hung up.
Whatever she wanted?
Would he give her whatever she wanted?
Shaking her head, Freya emptied the wine glass.
She picked out a tissue, dabbing it on her lips gently.
Not a moment later, a knock came from the door.
Cora rose to her feet, swaying slightly as she sauntered forward.
She held the doors open, and behold, the girl she hated the most was staring back at her.
Oh, how interesting this was gonna be.
“Hello, Violet… Hope you had a splendid trip.”
Cora wished she could bite her tongue. She wished those words were the opposite.
If only the plane had crashed on the way and Clyde was the only survivor.
If only this wench was disfigured for life.
“Yeah, the trip would have been great!” The bitch maintained eye contact as if she could see through Cora.
She even had the guts to eye her from head to toe, and then added, “If only I had been myself all the way and Clyde had kept his hands to himself. Nevertheless, I had a great time.”
The bodyguards coughed until one of them almost dropped the sleeping girl.
While the lady standing with Violet covered her mouth, stifling laughter.
Cora's expression darkened.
Those things Violet said just now were only meant to irk her off.
Clyde would never touch a filthy woman like her.
He hated her when she ran off. He must have only brought her here because of the kid.
Her gaze fell on the kid.
Cora hadn't been mistaken when she thought the girl felt familiar.
Wasn't she the same kid inside that sandstorm?
Fate and destiny were truly things she could never understand.
Swallowing Violet's insults, she widened her smile and moved out of the way, welcoming them inside the suite.
She wouldn't give her the satisfaction she needed.
Indeed, she'd never seen eye to eye with her, and right now, she so wished to tear her apart.
‘But patience is key.’
Violet would soon regret crossing her.
“Oh, what a little beauty she is…” She took the sleeping girl from the bodyguard, a bitter jealousy suddenly spiking up.
Cora couldn't help but imagine…
What if she and Clyde had a child?
Would he love him or her the way he loved Violet's daughter?
Clyde didn't wait for a DNA test.
He wasn't ready to listen to any reasoning. Cora had tried to speak sense into him during the phone call, but he insisted this girl was his child.
How ridiculous!
“Oh, but the little angel is fast asleep…” She faked a sigh of disappointment. “How's she gonna meet her great-grandpa later like this? I hope she wakes up soon.”
“Ms. Reid, Mr. Crawford said not to wake her up. Just help Mrs. Crawford get prepared. The Young Miss will wake up on her own.”
Cora fought the urge to roll her eyes at the bodyguard’s words.
Did he just call Violet Mrs. Crawford?
In their dreams!
“Oh, well, we'd better get started then.” She carefully dropped the girl on the bed and then turned towards the ladies. “I guess you've forgotten most of the rules of the Crawford households. Let me remind you, Violet-”
“No need.” Violet dismissed her words, a gut-wrenching punch to her pride.
Cora couldn't maintain a straight face when the wench kept grating on her nerves.
But then, she took in a deep breath and smiled. “Very well, then. Who's hungry? I'll have the room service deliver the best cuisine in this hotel.”
“Oh, please, I'm starving!” The other lady rubbed her stomach. “I’m Freya, by the way. You must be Cora. I think we met at Asher's… uhm, well, what a coincidence.”
Asher’s engagement with Violet, of course.
Cora's gaze fell on the ring on the girl's fingers.
Well, how was she gonna become Mrs. Crawford again when she now had another man's ring?
