Chapter 51 Silly Ideas
~
Her smile was too fake.
It was more menacing than kind.
Who was she kidding?
If Violet didn't know the girl's true color, she would have almost believed that her intentions were genuine.
Oh, goodness! How she wished she could smack Clyde on the head.
Did he leave them in Cora's care to humiliate her?
Wasn't that man unbelievable?
Of all people…
“Food will be ready soon,” Cora announced, her lips stretching into a smile. “Please feel at home, Girls. I'll be back in a jiffy.”
Then she went ahead to pat Mimi's hair before leaving.
Violet could finally breathe normally.
She'd been trying so hard to keep in her rage from having to see Cora's face.
“I don't like her, Vi,” Freya whispered to her the moment Cora left. “Her actions are too forced.”
Even a child would know that Cora was only faking it.
Violet didn't miss the anger and hate in her eyes.
She didn't miss the jealousy in her eyes when she took Mimi from the bodyguard.
Well, she was more worried about her baby than Cora.
Mimi had been sleeping for too long.
Ever since they left Metro City, the girl hadn't woken up yet. Should she be worried?
“We've got to be careful around that lady, Vi…” Freya warned. “She gives off this bad energy that spells she's up to something.”
Violet shrugged.
She hadn't told Freya yet that Cora was the same person Clyde cheated on her with.
Seriously, she didn't need to warn her about the girl.
Whatever Cora was up to, Violet didn't care. She only cared about getting things over with and leaving this place as soon as possible.
She left the couch and sat on the bed beside the sleeping girl.
The medications they gave her must have a sleeping effect and she might probably wake up soon.
Now that Violet could be alone with her daughter, she couldn't help but feel the initial regret.
Her actions led to this mess, and she ended up agreeing to her baby's request anyway.
Carefully, she stroked Mimi's hair, not too rapidly to wake the girl up.
“Oh, girl! What a long trip.” Freya stood up and entered the bathroom, yawning and complaining of exhaustion.
Violet was exhausted too, and she found herself dozing off beside Mimi, until-
A loud shattering sound echoed inside the suite, jolting her awake.
Violet almost sprang to her feet, the shock sending her heart racing.
“Oh, oh my goodness!” Cora stood by the door with the room service, and there was a broken glass tray in front of her. “Did I wake you up, Violet? The staff's cart is loaded, and I thought to help her hold these-”
As Cora blabbered on, Violet fought hard not to roll her eyes.
She wouldn't be surprised if Cora did it intentionally.
Ignoring her, Violet turned to her baby who had also woken up.
“Uh, Daddy… It hurts! Can't breathe!” Mimi woke up, whining and about to sob.
It seemed the sleep hadn't completely left her eyes as she reached out to hold something in the air. “Daddy- Daddy.”
Violet sighed, throwing Cora a disapproving look.
Then she patted Mimi's back gently, hugging her against her chest. “It's alright, Baby… Mummy's here.”
“Mummy?” The girl pulled away and stared at her face, her eyes drowsy with sleep.
She kept on yawning even as she hugged Violet again. “I missed you, Mummy… where's Daddy? Did he run off again?”
“Oh, isn't she cute and sweet?” Cora butted in as Violet was about to reply to Mimi's question.
She trotted forward on her heels and sank onto the bed beside them, reaching out to take Mimi from her.
Well, Violet would be a fool to let her touch her daughter.
She threw her a warning look, and Cora instantly dropped her hand. “Violet, come on, I don't bite.”
The hotel staff spread the various cuisines on a large table in the room before picking up the broken glasses and leaving.
“Besides, Mimi's Clyde's baby,” Cora went on, smiling sweetly. “I'll never have the heart to hurt her.”
Violet wished she could tell her to shut it, or even wipe the fake smile off her face with a resounding slap.
Whenever her eyes fell on Cora, her mind couldn't help but wander back to that day five years ago.
She would never forget the shock and heartbreak. The betrayal left a deep scar, and that memory was deeply engraved on her heart.
Mimi was now fully awake.
She released Violet from the hug and turned to face Cora, her tiny brows furrowing. “Do you know my Daddy, Miss? Is he coming back soon?”
“Oh, your Daddy and I share a special relationship, Dear,” Cora replied, throwing Violet a knowing look. “Please call me Aunt Cora. And yes, we'll soon meet your Daddy.”
“Really?” Mimi's expression brightened.
“But first, we'll meet your Greatgrandpa, and then your Grandma and Grandpa. Your Daddy left you in my care. I'll help you get ready.”
“You're so kind, Aunt Cora!” Mimi giggled. “Can't wait to meet Grandma, Grandpa, and Greatgrandpa!”
“And you're so adorable, Baby.” Cora pinched her cheek. “And also smart. Just like your Daddy.”
If Cora was faking it just now, pretending to be nice to Mimi, then she was a great actress.
Well, Violet wasn't buying any of that.
She pulled Mimi close to her, returning the lady's fake smile. “You don't have to be here with us. We'll look after ourselves.”
“Unfortunately, I'm following Clyde’s orders,” Cora replied. “You'll have to bear with me, Violet.”
“You must love this job, Cora,” Violet snickered.
Cora folded her hands, her eyes devoid of the smile on her lips.
She squared her shoulders and then stood up, sauntering towards the floor-to-ceiling window. “The designers will be here in a while. You all need to look presentable before meeting Clyde's family.”
“My Grandma and Grandpa won't mind if we wear this, right?” Mimi followed her. “Aunt Cora, inviting designers must be too expensive.”
“Oh, Dear…” Cora squatted to her height, holding her shoulders. “You really have no idea what family you're from… and what fortune lies ahead of you.”
Mimi frowned. “Is my Daddy very rich?”
“Your Daddy is the richest.” Cora chortled. “From now on, you'll live like a princess. All the other kids will want to play with you, and when you grow up, your Grandma and Grandpa will choose a rich guy for you to marry.”
“What's the deal with being rich?”
“Oh, Girl-”
“That's enough.” Violet had to end the conversation before Cora put any silly ideas into her baby's mind.
