Chapter 54 Embarrass Him
His eyes had to be seeing wrong.
Clyde sprang to his feet, shock overwhelming him.
That wasn't Violet and her friend.
It definitely wasn't Mimi standing with them.
Where was the limo he'd sent to pick them up?
And where exactly was Cora?
They not only arrived in a taxi, they were wearing faded jeans and blouses, and his daughter wore just another jumpsuit.
Their makeup was more horrible than anything he'd ever seen.
What the hell was happening?
“Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Who are they?”
“Who invited these kinds of people?”
“Are they beggars?”
“Who allowed them in here?”
Clyde's eyes darkened, a fit of rage suddenly boiling inside him.
Indeed, they looked like beggars, especially Violet whose hair was so messy and unkempt.
Was this what Cora had been trying to warn her about?
This cunning woman!
“Becca, I hope this is not your daughter-in-law and granddaughter.” Olivia clicked her tongue. “Tsk, if not, your family's reputation ends here.”
“O- Of course, not!” Rebecca exclaimed. “How can they be a part of my family? Th- Those are mere strangers!”
Clyde facepalmed himself.
He had to put an end to this nonsense before Violet embarrassed them all.
However, it was too late.
His daughter sighted him from the crowd and the first thing she did was scream, “Daddy! Daddy!”
She chanted the word ‘Daddy!’ several times until everyone looked back and forth from him to her.
Damnit!
Clyde approached them and picked her up. Then he brought out his hankie and carefully wiped her lips. “Who put this on you, Baby?”
“Mummy did.” Mimi hugged his neck. “I missed you so much, Daddy. Didn't we agree you wouldn't run anymore?”
“Daddy's here now,” Clyde replied. “I won’t break my promise.”
And he was so going to deal with this woman.
From the proud look on Violet’s face, Clyde didn't need to be told that it was her idea.
She neither looked fazed nor intimidated as everyone gave her strange looks.
“Ah, so that's the Young Master's wife, Mrs. Crawford.”
“Is she crazy?”
“What's she wearing?”
“Did she live in a mental facility overseas?”
“Shit! Clyde had many outstanding women chasing after him. Why would he go for such a crazy woman?”
“She must have rubbed some of her madness on their daughter. Look how the little girl is dressed.”
“Seriously, she needs to be taught manners. I fear for the future generations of the Crawford family.”
Rebecca’s face turned from white to red as the comments weren't just whispers.
Grandpa Luke didn't look a bit happy either.
The old man narrowed his eyes on her as if trying to remember something. “Are you sure this is my granddaughter-in-law, Clyde? Didn't you go and hire a woman who looks like her?”
“Hahaha! Grandpa, it is I, Violet, can't you remember?” She laughed like a maniac.
Her laughter alone was enough to destroy one's eardrums. “I missed you guys a lot! Wow, is this party or what!?”
She spoke like a hooligan.
Her manners were totally different from the calm and coy woman he knew.
Clyde couldn't close his mouth.
She even turned to his parents and gave them a playful wink. “Aren't these my amazing inlaws? Hmmm, you look extraordinary, Mum, but your lipstick could be brighter.”
More gasps echoed.
Some of the guests covered their mouths, stifling laughter.
“Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!” Olivia clicked her tongue. “It seems my fear has come true. So much for having a perfect family, Sister!”
She stood up with her family. But they didn't leave until she added, “Just make sure your son conducts a DNA test. Who knows, your daughter-in-law must have interacted with a lot of men while she was overseas.”
More whispers broke out after Olivia's words.
The servants specifically wouldn't shut their mouths.
“Ah, does it mean that she returned with a bastard?”
“But that little girl looks a lot like her grandma.”
“Hey, something fishy is happening.”
“Don't you think that the young Miss has undergone a significant change?”
“That's enough!” Clyde couldn't handle the whispers anymore.
The more they spoke, the worse his irritation grew.
“Mimi is my daughter. I don't need a DNA test.” He addressed the crowd. “And Violet is my wife. What makes you think she'll cheat?”
He held Violet's waist, pulling her close to him, stopping her from fooling around further. “So this is the surprise you spoke about, Sweetheart.”
Violet blinked at him. Then anger flashed in her eyes. “You-”
Clyde leaned forward and kissed her, interrupting whatever she wanted to say. “What a dramatic entrance.”
The crowd gasped again.
Even Olivia and her family came back to have a look.
“What does that mean?”
“Did Mrs. Crawford plan to scare us?”
“Ah, so she knew what she was doing. They almost fooled us.”
“Hehe, I guess Mrs. Crawford wanted to make a dramatic entrance. Well, we'll never forget this night.”
“Silly girl, you almost gave me a heart attack!” Grandpa Luke patted his chest. “Don't try that again.”
“Sorry about that, Grandpa,” Clyde apologized. “She didn't mean any harm.”
“Right. My granddaughter-in-law is a good girl. She won't hurt anyone intentionally.” The old man laughed. “Come here, Dear. Come and greet Grandpa properly. Bring that little angel over here too. Grandpa has been dying to meet her, I couldn't even sleep at night.”
Clyde didn't let go of her waist lest she slip away.
Following his Grandfather's command, he pushed her forward until they got to where the old man sat.
“Mimi, meet Greatgrandpa,” he said to the girl who had been watching everyone curiously. “That's your Grandma and Grandpa.”
While Mimi was busy interacting with the family, Clyde couldn't wait to release his monster.
Did Violet think that was funny?
What would have happened if everyone believed her act and someone leaked what happened tonight to the media?
How would he ever be able to face the world?
He pulled her inside the house and pinned her against the wall, letting his rage take over.
“Nice job, Mrs. Crawford. Does it feel good to embarrass me in front of everyone?”
