Chapter 55 Trust Him

Violet gulped, cowering until her back was pressed to the wall.

Did she embarrass him?

Well, that was exactly what she'd planned.

She not only planned to embarrass him but also make his family despise her so much that they couldn't stand her sight.

But the heartless man just had to foil her plan.

Violet didn't see the kiss coming.

She never expected him to turn the situation in his favor.

“Violet Harris, tell me how I should deal with you.”

He was too close, his intimidating presence suffocating the atmosphere.

Rage was obvious in his eyes, boiling like a volcano.

As much as she tried, Violet couldn't compose herself, his dangerous presence making her shudder.

She swallowed before opening her mouth. “Did I do something wrong, Mr. Crawford? Do we even know each other?”

“You-”

“Stop harassing me!” She stuttered. “However I dress or act is none of your business. If you or your family don't like it, is it my fault?”

Violet couldn't believe she was stepping on the Lion’s tail despite baring its canines at her.

Well, she was disheartened and mad also.

She thought her plan could go perfectly. She'd hoped his family would send them out.

“Listen here…” He gritted out, his voice tense as if holding back his rage. “Never try that nonsense again. This is your last warning-”

“Or what!?” She shot back.

Just because he scared the hell out of her didn't mean she would allowed him to intimidate her.

If Violet didn't find a way to make his family disapprove of her, how was she ever going to have a peaceful life?

“You came with me willingly.” He lowered his voice. “It means you're ready to be together again. Don't be two-faced.”

“Oh, I'm only learning from the best.” Violet quirked her brows, folding her hands across her chest. “For someone who's shamelessly messing around with his mistress, it's a surprise hearing this from you.”

His eyes darkened. “Cora is not my mistress!”

Who would believe that?

Did he think she was a baby?

Violet had no time to banter with the man, so she pushed him away and headed to the door.

But Clyde grabbed her hand.

He pulled her back until she collided with him. “Violet, behave yourself.”

“Just leave me alone!”

“You're my wife-”

“You won't order me around- ah!” Violet yelped as he suddenly picked her up.

He flung her over his shoulder, disregarding her screams as he strode down the hallway.

“Damnit! Let me go, Clyde!” She fisted her hands and hit his back. “What the hell are you doing?”

He didn't let go though.

He only held her tighter to cease her movements.

Violet was beginning to feel uneasy.

Fear crept into her heart, and her heartbeat picked up.

She hadn't gone too far, had she?

What the hell was she about to get into?

“Clyde, stop it!”

“Scream all you want,” the man scoffed. “Nobody can save you.”

Right.

And nobody would.

None of the servants even paid them attention.

Where the hell was Freya for goodness sake!?

Violet screamed inside her mind.

Now that she needed her best friend the most, the girl was nowhere to be seen.

Tired of screaming and struggling, Violet stopped moving.

This heartless man wouldn't let her go anyway. She'd rather switch to a different tactic.

“Clyde…” She softened her voice. “That was only a prank. I didn't mean any trouble.”

“Your prank almost got me into trouble.” He paused in front of a door and kicked it open. “Do you know how bad the family's reputation would have been if I hadn't interceded?”

He entered the room and put her down.

If Violet knew that he would lock the door, she would have acted quickly. “W- What do you want?”

“Strip.”

“Huh?”

“I said remove your clothes,” Clyde stated clearly, giving her a blank look.

Was he crazy?

Was he about to…

“I won't repeat myself, Violet…” He stepped forward and she stepped back. “Or do you want me to help?”

No way she was going to strip.

Honestly, she wanted to cry at her bad luck.

How could she let her plan fail and end up like this?

The last thing she wanted was Clyde forcing himself on her. She'd hate him forever.

“Don't you dare.” Violet covered her chest protectively. “I swear I won't give in, Clyde. It's either you or me in this room tonight. I'd rather die than have your filthy hands on me.”

And she wasn't kidding.

Violet eyed the flower vase in a corner.

The vase might knock him out or even do worse. She might even end up in jail, but the hell she was going to let him touch her.

Clyde frowned, his blank look turning into confusion.

Glancing from his left to right, he brought his attention back to her. “What crazy things are you cooking up in your mind?”

“I plan to murder you if you try to touch me.” Violet didn't see why she should hide her intentions.

At least, he should know what he had coming.

“No, I mean what crazy things are you thinking?” Clyde repeated. “What made you think I'm that kind of person?”

“Well, you-”

“I only asked you to strip so you can wear something new.” He closed the distance between them, giving her a look of disbelief. “Do you think that I'll force myself on you?”

Violet bit the inside of her cheeks.

Urgh!

Okay. This was embarrassing.

She stared at the floor, hiding her burning cheeks from him.

But the way he put it- well, scratch that.

“You're not a gentleman, Clyde…” She looked up. “Besides, I don't trust you.”

Well, she'd misread his intention, but it didn't mean that she would trust him.

Violet loosened up and accessed the room.

This was their bedroom in the mansion. He'd really brought her here to change.

Well, what was she gonna change into?

It mustn't be that her clothes were still here, right?

To confirm, Violet headed to the walk-in closet, and she almost gasped at the sight in front of her.

The closet was filled up with clothes. Those weren't her old clothes but new ones.

Did he prepare this before they arrived?

Engrossed in staring at the shocking sight, Violet didn't realize that he'd followed her into the closet,

Until his voice sounded behind her. “Why can't you trust me?”

The man was so close.

She could feel his breath against her neck.
