Chapter 58 Her Condition
~
Cursing under his breath, Clyde tugged at his necktie, yanking it off as he returned to the bedroom.
The place was empty.
Violet must still be inside the closet.
Well, he'd think twice before approaching her now.
Who knew if another bottle of perfume would be thrown at him?
He removed his jacket and then his bloodied shirt and tossed them in the trash.
The metallic stench from Cora's blood lingered, and he wrinkled his nose, fighting the urge to belch.
Clyde stripped out of his entire clothes. He needed a long warm bath to get the dirt off him.
Damnit!
He couldn't believe how much blood she had lost.
He still couldn't believe that Violet did that to her as well.
Stepping into the bathroom, Clyde headed straight to the shower.
He turned the tap on, letting the warm water fall on him, the effect gradually soothing his nerves.
When he closed his eyes, his mind flashed back to the scene inside the closet.
Heaven knew how much he wanted her, and how much he meant his words.
These were critical moments.
He'd been lucky enough to have Violet follow him to this city.
His next mission wasn't going to be difficult unless she gave him a hard time. If only she could let go of her stubbornness.
Clyde reached out for the bar soap beside the shower head, his gaze instinctively darting to the curtain.
He almost dropped the soap in the process, his eyes widening a bit.
A slender figure sat inside the bathtub, her silhouette showing through the almost transparent curtain.
He gulped.
“Pervert!” She scoffed under her breath, running the sponge down the length of her arm. “I could sue you for invading privacy.”
“Sadly, we're husband and wife.” Clyde loosened up and he resumed what he was doing.
He'd almost thought it was somebody else. “Besides, we've done this several times before.”
Her scoffs accompanied his statement. Her movements halted as well as she dropped the sponge.
Then she washed herself and rose to her feet.
Clyde swallowed… nothing.
His throat was suddenly dry, his eyes glued to her silhouette through the transparent curtain.
He couldn't believe he was ogling at her despite having seen her this way several times in the past.
His breath caught in her throat when her bare arms came into view as she reached for the towel. Then she wrapped it around her before pulling the curtain aside.
Violet stepped out of the bathtub area, her milky white skin glistening with water.
He expected her to yell out curses at him or call him more names.
Clyde had expected her to scream and run out.
But then, what was she doing?
Why was she heading his way?
Violet stopped walking only a few inches from him, enough to prevent the falling water from touching her.
Staring him right in the eye, she smirked.
Aware of the effects she was having on him, she must be enjoying reveling in his misery.
“I've thought about it.” She touched the side of his face, trailing her fingers down his jawline. “One month. Just one month.”
A heavy weight instantly lifted off his shirt.
Damn! She agreed.
“But I have one condition.” She went on, her fingers now tracing strange patterns on his bare chest. “No touching, Mr. Crawford. There should be no intimacy between us throughout the month.”
All the while, she maintained eye contact, her electrifying gaze immobilizing him.
Clyde didn't know when she left.
He only returned to his senses to find only himself remaining inside the bathroom.
The aftereffects of her touch lingered. His skin burned where she'd touched.
His heart was racing like a train, and her words echoed.
No touching. No intimacy.
What kind of a ridiculous condition was that?
Would he be able to abide by her rule?
Instead of taking a long bath the way he'd planned to, Clyde quickly washed up.
He grabbed a towel and left, expecting to meet her inside the closet.
Well, she was already dressed, standing in front of the vanity mirror and applying a hand cream.
The silky fabric she wore was much better than her initial outfit.
Her hair was tied into a loose bun, and the night dress didn't hug her figure, yet her curves were evident through them.
“I won't abide by that rule.” He stopped behind her, inhaling the fresh fragrance of a perfume from her hair. “Any rule but that.”
“Very well…” Violet shrugged. “Our deal is done-”
“No.” Clyde spun her around, holding her shoulders. “You know the consequences-”
“I don't care about the consequences.” She appeared oddly calm, giving him a nonchalant look. “I don't mind being labeled as a frivolous woman. You can take me to court. You can have the judge charge me for engaging with another man while we're married. Just know that love always wins in the end.”
Her lighthearted tone as she said those words felt like heavy hammers crushing his pride.
His grip tightened around her shoulders involuntarily.
Clyde couldn't digest her words.
He couldn't bear the fact that she had fallen for another man.
So she didn't mind him taking her to court.
How much did she love Asher that she would sacrifice so much for him?
Shutting his eyes, he took a deep breath.
“Besides…” She snickered. “Cora's always ready to warm up your bed. Can't you see the desperation in her eyes? Clyde Crawford, you literally have every willing woman in IvoryHills at your disposal-”
“Shut up!” Clyde glared at her.
What the hell did she think of him?
Had his image completely shattered in her eyes?
He couldn't have her continue crushing his pride.
Spinning around, he pushed her onto the bed and hovered over her, supporting himself on one arm. “I never looked at any other woman.”
Yet, she was daring enough to keep on provoking him.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she gave him the sweetest smile. “I don't believe you.”
At that moment, the door opened with a bang and a lady rushed in. “Ahhhh! What the hell are you doing!?”
