Chapter 59 In Danger
Violet wished the ground would open up.
She shut her eyes, sinking in embarrassment, all her confidence fading away.
“V- Violet, Y-You!”
She didn't need to turn to know who just barged in.
Urgh!
How was she gonna face her best friend now?
“Maybe you should knock next time you walk into people's room, Freya.” Clyde rolled off her body. “Be grateful we're close.”
“Ah, you! Clyde!” Freya trembled, pointing a shaky finger forward. “W- what did you do to my best friend?”
“You mean my wife.” His lips twitched and he left the bed, heading inside the closet.
No! Violet really wanted to disappear.
Cursing Clyde inside her mind wasn't enough. She hoped that man would slip and embarrass himself.
“Violet, hope I'm seeing things.” Freya came and sat beside her, confused and wary. “Y- You and your ex-husband-”
“It's not what you're thinking.” Violet quickly interrupted her, covering her cheeks.
She'd thought she could provoke him and hurt his pride a little.
Who knew her mischievous trick would backfire in the wrong way?
Now what would Freya think of her?
What if…
“Damnit, Girl!” Freya wiped her face. “I'm not a baby! You and Clyde were about to-”
“No!” Violet screamed. “I- I told you it's not what you're thinking.”
Violet wanted to explain everything in detail.
She'd planned to lay out her plan to Freya carefully.
If she'd had any other choice, she wouldn't have agreed to Clyde's request.
Hell! Who said she wasn't afraid of standing in the court and being labeled as a frivolous woman?
She couldn't bear the charges or the idea of ending up in jail either.
“Oh, it is what you're thinking.” Clyde emerged from the closet, buttoning up his pajamas shirt. “Your best friend and I have reconciled.”
Freya's expression turned frigid.
Then she shook her head in disbelief, throwing Violet an uncertain look.
Oh, goodness, what was she cooking up in her head? “I'm not that kind of person, Freya,” Violet explained. “You know me.”
“Well, you better have a sound explanation for this, Young Lady!” Freya gave her a stern look. “I won't have my best friend going around, two-timing between two men!”
Freya's words made her cringe.
Violet fiddled with her fingers, contemplating her words.
Was she two-timing?
That shouldn't be the right way to put it, right?
“Don't label my wife with that,” Clyde responded to Freya's words. “She only has one man. Me.”
Damnit!
The man was only making things worse.
Funny how Violet was suddenly tongue-tied.
Urgh!
She glared at him and turned to Freya, taking her hands gently. “Actually-”
“Actually, we can discuss this later,” Freya murmured.
Violet didn't need to be told that her best friend was mad.
Who wouldn't when she'd just caught her in such an awkward position with the man she'd vowed never to associate with again?
“I was searching for Mimi and couldn't find her anywhere. A servant directed me here. I thought she was with you.”
Mimi!
An alarm bell went off in Violet's head instantly.
She left Mimi interacting with Clyde's parents.
Freya had been standing there…
She gasped. “I thought you were watching over her.”
“Well, I was before one hot dude approached me!” Freya slapped herself on the forehead. “Forget that! I'll go continue searching.”
“Maybe she's with Mum and Dad,” Clyde suggested.
“Your parents are still outside with others.” Freya shook her head. “Your grandfather is also entertaining some guests. I guess Mimi got bored and wandered off.”
Inside this huge mansion, where could her baby have wandered off to?
Violet stood up immediately as a sudden eerie feeling rose inside her heart.
What if…
What if?
“Relax, there are bodyguards standing in every spot of this mansion.” Clyde rubbed her shoulder. “They'll soon bring her.”
No!
Seriously, Violet had a feeling that her baby was in danger.
And whenever she had this feeling, the outcome was not always good.
She grabbed a shawl from the closet and strode out. “Freya, let's go.”
“I told you to calm down.” Clyde stopped them as she and Freya were ready to leave. “Stop being a worrywart. This home is safe.”
Right!
There were more than fifty servants in this mansion.
The bodyguards were many.
Nothing could possibly harm Mimi here. “Well, we still have to look for-”
“Young Master! Young Master! Bad news!” A servant barged inside before Violet completed her words.
She stopped by the door, panting heavily as she held the door frame.
“Don't you know how to knock?” Clyde sounded irritated.
The servant quickly composed herself. “Y- Young Master, I- I am so sorry! I- I didn't mean to.”
Clyde waived her off with his hand.
But the maid didn't leave.
She turned but hesitated as if wanting to say something. “B- But, Young Master, you've got to take a look. I- I heard dogs barking in the backyard… I- I heard a little girl's screams, and I couldn't find the Little Young Miss anywhere.”
“What did you just say?” Clyde turned around and approached the maid.
Even Violet couldn't make out the words she said.
All she could hear was ‘dogs barking and a little girl’s screams’
“I- I'm not sure, but I think the Little Young Miss is in danger,” The maid stuttered. “P- Please come take a look, Young Master-”
The maid yelped as Clyde rushed past her and she fell.
Violet didn't waste a second there either.
She exchanged a fearful glance with Freya and took to her heels.
Hopefully, the maid had heard it wrong.
It mustn't be Mimi.
Maybe it was some other kid who had wandered in there.
Clyde was faster than them. By the time they came out of the building, they couldn't see his figure anywhere.
“Oh my goodness, I hope she's alright, Vi,” Freya exclaimed. “I was supposed to watch over her, but I let that dumbhead distract me, Damnit!”
They ran after Clyde.
Thank goodness Violet knew her way around the mansion or they'd get lost.
When they arrived in the backyard, it was strange how the place was so silent.
The dogs weren't barking. They were all inside their cages. There was no sign of a little girl either.
Only Clyde stood there, looking mad and irritated. “Damn! I'm gonna fire that maid,” he cursed under his breath.
