Chapter 63 Too Desperate

Would Clyde admit it, or would he not?

Violet glanced at him, surprised at her own calmness.

But five years was enough to lose feelings for someone.

Staring at Clyde and Cora right now, locked in a tight embrace, she felt nothing.

“Why aren't you answering?” Becca asked. “What's going on between you two? Are those photos real?”

Seriously, Violet would rather be somewhere else instead of witnessing Clyde confess his love for Cora to his parents.

She picked Mimi up and left the ward.

The girl looked extremely sad and she didn't look up.

Hugging her arm, she sniffled silently, about to sob.

Violet had to stop that from happening. The last thing she wanted was seeing her baby cry.

She sat down on a waiting chair in the hallway and sat Mimi on her lap.

“Mummy, Aunt Cora is innocent…” The girl wasn't over the shock of seeing her slap Cora yet. “Please don't bully her anymore, okay?”

Violet wouldn't promise that.

As long as Cora kept on meddling in her life, she'd keep teaching her a lesson.

“Why did you tell everyone that you didn't go to the backyard?” She asked softly, reading the little girl's expression.

Mimi fidgeted with her fingers.

For the first time, she avoided her eyes.

Violet’s heart ached from seeing this, and her hate for Cora only increased.

“Aunt Cora made me promise,” Mimi murmured. “I- I didn't wanna see her cry, Mummy. Aunt Cora lost a lot of blood while saving me, and-”

She made her promise not to tell everyone she wandered to that place.

Violet's instincts never failed her.

She'd already guessed this from the start. Her baby had never lied before. But she did it so perfectly that everyone didn't sense the truth.

When Mimi tilted her head and asked Freya what dogs she was talking about, Violet was afraid,

And then angry that Cora had made her do it.

“Did she send you there, Dear?” She asked.

Mimi nodded almost instantly. “I asked Aunt Cora where to find you and Daddy. But she made a mistake and pointed me to the scary dogs.”

Violet shut her eyes.

She took in a deep breath to control her rage from erupting.

Seriously, she could barge into that ward again and pull Cora's hair out.

Was Cora so heartless and cruel that she could endanger a little girl's life for her selfish whims?

“Are you alright, Baby?” Violet hugged her and kissed her hair. “Don't be scared… Mummy's here.”

“The big dogs were so scary and loud.” Mimi sniffled. “Aunt Cora told me to be a brave lady, but I'll never go back to that place, Mummy.”

The little girl didn't fake it anymore.

Violet knew she was scared. She'd felt it when her fingers shook while she lied about seeing the dogs.

That was how she knew that Cora was up to her tricks.

Sighing again, she whispered. “From now on, stay away from her.”

Mimi bobbed her head. “I'll only listen to you, Mummy.”

Moments later, footsteps approached.

Violet lifted her head to find Clyde walking in their direction.

He still looked angry.

Would he still demand she go and apologize to Cora?

Oh, he must have admitted his relationship with Cora to his parents already.

What next?

Violet might finally be freed from this chaos.

Clyde sat beside her, throwing her an irritated look. “You shouldn't have made a scene. Not in her presence.”

He stared at Mimi who was already dozing off.

It was way past her bedtime already. The girl must be so exhausted.

But Violet wouldn't let Clyde pin the blame on her.

She didn't see why she should be silent about it either.

“Mimi…” She stroked her baby's hair. “Can you tell Daddy the things you told Mummy just now?”

“Aunt Cora made a pinky promise that I won't tell anybody I saw the dogs.” Mimi yawned. “It's not Aunt Cora's fault, Daddy. She made a mistake and pointed me to the dogs’ house instead of pointing me to Mummy and Daddy.”

Then she yawned again and dropped her head on Violet's shoulder.

Violet watched the look on the man's face transform from anger to rage.

He reached out to touch Mimi, however, she stood up with her.

“You can have as much fun as you want with your mistress. Just don't make her come near me or my daughter again.” She walked away, leaving his hand hanging mid-air.

Violet patted Mimi's back gently until the girl was deeply asleep.

As she strolled down the hallway, hugging her firmly, Freya finally came out of the ward.

“I thought you'd left already.” She glanced at Freya who looked strangely happy.

“How could I leave without witnessing the whole drama?” Freya laughed, covering her mouth when she noticed Mimi sleeping. “You should have seen the looks on their faces, Vi!”

Now Violet was curious.

What exactly happened in there?

Freya saved her the hassle of asking as she went ahead, spilling everything. “If I'm not wrong, Cora seems to be the one chasing after your ex-husband. Damn, he's so heartless! Can you believe that he denied their relationship to his parents?”

“The poor bitch looked so pale as if she'd faint! Oh my goodness, Vi, that man is a heartbreaker! Who knew he could lie without batting an eye?”

Did it matter if Clyde had admitted it to his parents or not?

It wouldn't have changed the fact that he cheated, right?

“By the way, I have to applaud you for giving that bitch a hot slap! How dare she think she could manipulate your daughter?”

So Freya also sensed it.

Violet had thought she'd believed Mimi's lie.

“Come on, Vi.” Freya rolled her eyes. “We raised Mimi together. I can easily know when she lies. I just hope she doesn't corrupt your baby.”

Violet would never let that happen.

Cora was too desperate that she could use a little child.

How could she ever allow her baby to go near her again?
