Chapter 80 Got Into An Accident

At Twilight Hotel.

He'd lost track of time.

He must have been standing here since morning.

Leaning by the large window, Asher stared at his phone, contemplating whether to dial her number or not.

But she'd asked him to give her space.

There should be no communication between them.

Would he be able to do that?

Could he survive not keeping in touch with her for a whole month?

“Mr. Sydney, you've missed breakfast as well as lunch.”

Sitting on a couch inside the hotel suite, his assistant gave him a worried look. “You aren't regretting your decision, are you?”

Regret?

Did he have the right to?

Was he even given the opportunity to decide?

It was Violet's decision after all. She'd only asked for a favor, not seeking his opinion.

The hell he was comfortable with her living under the same roof with another man.

“I don't,” He replied.

But James came forward, giving him a worried look. “Since it has gotten to this, I have to say this. Can't you let her go?”

“Is that even a question?”  Asher glanced at the guy, suddenly feeling irritated.

If he could let Violet go, he would have long done that many years ago.

His assistant knew him well, better than anyone else.

Yet, the guy asked him that unnecessary question.

“Well, you shouldn't have given your consent.” James sighed. “You could deny her request for once.”

Despite her request being ridiculous, Asher didn't have the mind to deny it.

Because of a single fear…

What if Violet disliked him after that?

He'd just realized that forcing her wasn't the best option.

He was almost afraid that he'd lost her again when she traveled to this city without his permission.

“I can't lose her,” He murmured. “I've waited long enough to deserve her.”

“Hmmm, I don't like where this is going,” James muttered. “How sure are you that she'll keep her promise?”

“I trust her.” Asher didn't waste a second to reply.

Violet wasn't the type to back out of her promise.

When she promised him that she couldn't marry him, she ran away and almost never came back.

But now that she promised to marry him, she wouldn't back out of it.

“It's okay to trust her. But do you trust him?” James gave him an uncertain look. “He’s our problem, Boss. What if he doesn't let her go?”

Asher wouldn't put it past Clyde.

What if that one-month agreement was his way of bidding himself more time to trick her?

Would he be sure that Clyde wasn't going to snatch her from him?

If Violet, in case, swayed back to her ex-husband, wouldn't it be his loss?

“What do you want to do?” James asked him. “We can go back to Metro City and patiently wait for Ms. Hayes to return after one month. Or you can fight for your love.”

Fight for his love.

That was exactly what Asher had vowed to do.

But he'd made his promise to Violet. He'd agreed to her request.

Wouldn't he seem off as dishonest if he expressed his disapproval now?

“You don't have to keep in touch with Ms. Hayes…” His assistant went on. “But there's a way to stop Mr. Crawford from getting what he wants.”

What way?

The only one way was to make him stop chasing after Violet.

“Mr. Sydney, you must toughen up if you want to get your heart’s desires. Destroying all obstacles won't only give you an edge over your enemies, it will prevent future threats.”

What obstacles though?

“Think about it…” James added. “How strong is your love for her?”

Did the assistant need to ask?

Asher couldn't live without her.

That was how strong his love was.

He walked away from the floor-to-ceiling window, taking his gaze off the city's view.

Returning to the suite, he sat on the couch and picked up the almost empty bottle of wine.

Asher's phone rang at that moment, interrupting him from downing the remaining wine inside the bottle.

He grabbed it instinctively, his mind racing.

But then, disappointment settled in when he saw that it was a different number.

“Mum…” He answered the call. “What's up?”

“What's with the tone, Ash?” His mother sounded worried. “Are you drinking at this time of the day?”

“Of course, not…” Asher wiped his face, struggling to sound normal. “I was busy with work… then your call came in.”

“Are you sure?” His mother didn't sound convinced.

But then, she changed the topic. “Your cousin’s engagement party is in three days. I called to remind you again. Make sure you come with Violet so she can mingle with the other family members. I wanted to visit you guys, but I'm not feeling so well these days.”

Right!

The engagement party.

Asher never forgot that. Did he have to attend with Violet, though?

“Promise me you'll bring her…” His mother continued. “Rumors are going around that my daughter-in-law isn't a true heiress of the Lockwood Family. I have to prove them wrong, otherwise, we'll lose face!”

That again!

The rumors had always been flying around.

But Violet always preferred to keep her identity a secret.

Did he have to expose her?

“I'm sure my daughter-in-law won't mind. Just bring her, Son, to save your mother some dignity.”

Asher sighed. “Alright. Take care, Mum.”

He hung up.

His mother rarely asked for something.

How was he gonna let her down?

He downed the whole bottle of wine, rubbing his forehead as a slight headache kicked in.

Asher closed his eyes, giving in to the exhaustion of not catching a wink of sleep throughout the night.

How was he gonna ask Violet to come with him?

He'd already given her his word that he wouldn't contact her.

Moments later, Asher was dozing off but he sensed his assistant’s movements.

Through his blurred vision, he saw the guy receiving a phone call.

“Are you sure?” James whispered. “Send me a picture as proof.”

“What's the matter?” Asher sat up properly, groaning from his headache. “You look tense.”

James looked more than tense.

A message popped up and he stared at the photo in his phone.

“Y- You won't believe this, Mr. Sydney. One of the employees just told me that Ms. Hayes got into an accident. She's at Metro City and is severely wounded.”

Asher took the phone from James, staring at the photo.

He could neither believe what he was seeing or hearing.
