Chapter 82 Knew Everything!
Cora yelped, and she fell, landing on his lap.
“Clyde-”
“Be quiet!” He snapped. “Have I not warned you not to come near my family anymore? What are those gifts you brought to my daughter?”
He stared at her so darkly, and if looks could kill, she would have been buried six feet underneath the ground by now.
Cora struggled to breathe, but his grip on her neck only increased.
Damnit!
She shut her eyes and opened them, letting her tears flow. “Those gifts…” She choked. “I hoped to apologize with them, Honey. I never intended to hurt Mimi.”
His glare intensified.
He didn't believe any words she said.
Cora gritted her teeth, her heart burning with anger and pain.
Why couldn't he give in already?
That poor filthy girl, Violet, wasn't gonna benefit him.
“Honey…” She shed more tears, letting it dampen her make-up.
Right now, her appearance wasn't her problem.
She didn't come here to flaunt her beauty or turn any sick heads.
She was only here for a single mission.
The dickhead Herman wouldn't give her what she wanted until he got his own wish fulfilled first.
Cora couldn't wait for that long.
She couldn't wait until Violet completely snatched him from her.
“We grew up together, I've loved you since we were young. What made you think that I'll ever hurt your family?” She sniffled, leaning over him. “Your daughter is the most precious little girl I've ever met. I- I just wanted to take care of her.”
Clyde still didn't believe her.
His expression was as hard as a rock.
Knowing he'd seen through her lies and might never be convinced, Cora bit her lips.
Damnit!
What the hell did Violet tell him?
“Will you let others come between us?” She slowly reached for the small sachet tucked under her cleavage. “You know I can't live without you, Honey.”
When she brought the sachet out, Clyde caught her hand immediately.
Damn! He was so fast.
The man stared at the white substance, his expression darkening more. “Trying to use the same trick on me?”
Cora gulped.
Did she underestimate his smartness?
“Cora Reid, I can throw you off this building, and I mean it!” He gripped both her arms. “Quit this nonsense before I quit it for you.”
His grip was so tight that the pain shot through her nerves.
Cora sucked in a deep breath.
She couldn't handle the pain.
The heartless man was breaking her bones.
“L- Let me go!” She yelped, sobbing for real this time. “You're hurting me, Clyde!”
“Promise you'll never repeat that nonsense-”
“I promise!” She gasped as he exerted more pressure.
Cora couldn't feel her arms.
The pain was so unbearable that it numbed her down to the bones.
“Now get off!” He pushed her off his lap and she fell on the floor.
The impact was so hard that a searing pain gripped her waist.
She couldn't stand because her hands were shaking too rapidly.
Biting her lips hard, she tried to control her sobs from breaking out.
“Cora…”
His voice was unusually soft. Or did she imagine it?
While she sat on the floor, he towered above her in his mighty chair.
Cora had never let his presence intimidate her before, but now, she had second thoughts.
He was more dangerous than she remembered.
Never had she thought that he could lay his hands on her.
But didn't that just increase her love for him?
Clyde grabbed her chin, lifting her head so she could stare into his eyes.
They were so dark, almost soulless. “Just give up. There's no way we'll be together.”
“Why not!” She sniffled. “I've been with you for so many years. Why can't we be together?”
“My family comes first,” He replied.
That was the most silly response.
So what if he had a family?
“We can still be together…” She searched through his eyes for any positive emotion… for her. There was none. “I don't mind being your mistress for the rest of my life. I- I can be your woman.”
“You're too stubborn.” He let go of her chin, sounding irritated. “I'll regard you as my little sister. Just let go of this silliness.”
What was more silly than his words?
Laughing amidst her sobs, Cora gave him a bitter look. “Considering what happened between us five years ago… How can I ever be your little sister? I'll never become one.”
His expression shifted.
For a second, he spaced out before the storm in his eyes returned. “Five years ago… what happened was your fault!”
Cora swallowed his harsh words, but he wasn't done wounding her pride yet.
“You gave me this…” He accessed the white substance in his hand. “You caused my hallucinations. I know everything, Cora.”
Her lips parted.
Cora blinked, her blood running cold instantly.
He knew. Damnit!
Why, then, had he not killed her yet?
“Clyde-”
“Silence!” He shut her up, tossing that substance into the trash. “I let you go because of Drake. If you try it one more time, I won't hesitate to end your life!”
So he knew…
He knew all along.
And here she was, thinking it was her luck that the man didn't realize.
All these years, he'd been fooling her.
He'd only spared her because of that good-for-nothing.
Wiping her tears, she staggered to her feet as the numbing pain dissipated gradually. “Dying in your hands would be a pleasure. Reject me or kill me!”
“You've lost it!” He scoffed.
Cora nodded. Indeed, she had lost it. And she wasn't gonna stop until the end.
Damn! Even if she turned into a ghost, she wasn't gonna stop chasing him.
“Leave.”
He was sending her out again. How downgrading and humiliating.
Cora smiled, sniffing back the rest of her tears. “Sorry to disappoint you, Honey. I'll always hang around this company from now on. Haven't you met the new COO yet?”
Clyde frowned.
“And Oh, the position is mine forever. Except if you want the Group to lose the collaboration with the Reid Family. You know who my father is.”
