Chapter 87 End The Agreement

Would Becca seek her forgiveness?

Violet doubted that.

Besides, she wasn't sure if she would be able to forgive her.

Violet was only here to fulfill one mission to get Clyde to sign the divorce papers.

Never had she expected to fall back into the miserable life she'd once lived.

It was none other’s fault except Clyde's. If he'd agreed that they moved back to the Villa, all of this wouldn't have happened.

He said it was because of his grandfather.

Yet, Grandpa Luke had been okay with them living in the Villa before.

As the old man was still here, it was a great opportunity to ask him by herself.

“She doesn't have to, Grandpa,” Violet replied.

She didn't need Becca to ask for her apology anyway.

“All I want is that we return to the Villa. Clyde and I… we've spent quite some days here already.”

Grandpa Luke's sullen expression turned gloomier.

He obviously didn't appear pleased by her request.

Violet could sense Clyde’s displeasure too from the tensed look on his face.

“You really wish to leave this place?” Grandpa Luke sighed. “I’ll be happier if my great-granddaughter grows up in my presence.”

“Grandpa, we'll always visit…” Violet assured.

The old man looked sad indeed, but she wasn't going to let the guilt overwhelm her.

If she wanted a less chaotic life, she had to leave this place.

Becca's presence would only make her mission more difficult. She was already dealing with enough trouble.

“I bet that wicked woman scared you off,” Grandpa Luke said helplessly, anger flashing in his eyes. “Since it has come to this, I'll allow you guys to move out to the Villa. But you have to promise me that you'll always visit.”

Violet breathed out an air she hadn't known she'd been holding.

She exchanged glances with Clyde. He didn't look pleased at all.

“You can only leave after you recover. Make sure you take great care of yourself,” Grandpa Luke added. Then he stood up and left in low spirits.

Having her wish fulfilled, Violet sighed in contentment.

She ignored the gloomy look on Clyde's face and reached for her phone.

“Grandpa is obviously displeased. You shouldn't have made that request.”

Hearing his words, Violet looked up. “You know what happens when you're being too selfless? You bear unnecessary burdens.”

He frowned. “You think Grandpa is a burden?”

“No. Your mother is!”

Becca's troubles were already a burden to her.

Even if that wicked woman asked for her forgiveness, she wasn't really gonna change.

She might even do something worse in the future,

After all, Becca hated her to the core.

“Since Grandpa has already agreed, I bet you have no objections,” she added.

Well, Clyde looked as if he had one.

He must have stood strongly by the idea of living here.

Otherwise, he wouldn't look so displeased.

Shouldn't he be happy that they were all getting privacy?

“You’ve already made the decision. What choice do I have?” He shrugged.

Yet, he appeared troubled as he applied the ointment on her.

His movement was a bit rough and the pressure of his hand was getting harder.

Was he punishing her?

“Hey-”

“I'll be gentle…” He murmured, probably realizing his actions.

Scoffing inside, Violet closed her eyes.

She couldn't wait to leave this damned place.

“I've told you Mum has a mental illness. You just need to avoid her.”

He broke the silence after a while, causing Violet to open her eyes.

“Have I told you that I was kidnapped by your mother, Mr. Crawford? I wouldn't be foolish to wander into her quarters.”

They were long past this argument.

He didn't have to bring it up seriously.

“You shouldn't have mentioned Anna…” He grumbled. “If I hadn't arrived early, Mum would have…”

Killed her.

He'd already told her that before.

Funny how he kept on repeating the same thing.

Was he supporting the woman all because of her illness?

“Just because Becca is a lunatic doesn't mean she can hurt everybody as she pleases.”

“Hey.” He slapped her butt. “She's my Mum. Don't call her that.”

Damnit!

Violet cursed inside.

She so wished she could return the slap if only her weak body would cooperate.

But instead of feeling pain, she felt a whole different sensation.

“Anna's disappearance isn't totally her fault. Mum only wants her to marry into an affluent family,” he explained.

Anna had been working in the family's company when she fell for a male employee.

Even Grandpa Luke had disagreed with their union.

Becca had literally locked her own daughter inside the basement for a whole week, saying she would come back to her senses.

But Anna ran away!

And three days later, her corpse was found.

Nobody knew if she had committed suicide or if somebody else had murdered her.

The autopsy results weren't clear.

It was a taboo topic in the family that nobody was allowed to mention.

After the death of her daughter, Becca developed a mental illness. She became so vile and cruel that everyone avoided her.

If Becca hadn't attempted to disfigure her once when she first got married into this family, Violet wouldn't have known this story.

But then, Clyde told it to her to make her understand that Becca’s actions weren't intentional and she was only dealing with a mental illness.

Violet's background didn't help matters either, because the woman believed that a guy from a similar poor background had caused her daughter's death.

“Losing a child mustn't be easy. Don't think Mum is completely heartless,” Clyde added, stroking her back gently.

Losing a child wasn't easy indeed.

Violet almost lost her baby and it was the most horrible feeling.

But she wasn't gonna think positively about his mother when she was in this severe pain.

She sighed and closed her eyes, hoping sleep would take her, a temporary salvation from this aching pain.

“Can we not move back to the Villa?” He asked.

Violet responded with her own question. “Can we end the agreement here, Mr. Crawford?”
