Chapter 88 For Violet
…
At Metro City.
A week had passed, but it felt like just yesterday.
Asher couldn't believe he was doing this.
He didn't know what he was doing in fact.
He must be out of his mind.
He could regret this later.
“Mr. Sydney, you're doing nothing wrong,” Said his assistant who was driving him back home. “Take this as a charity act and also use it to your advantage.”
Asher chuckled. “You order me around as if you're my Boss. Why the formality?”
James coughed, blushing in embarrassment. “I'm sorry, Boss… however-”
“Just call me Asher.”
“Huh?”
“You can call me that in her presence since she believes we're friends,” Asher replied.
He'd always been listening to the guy because he came up with good advice.
James wasn't only his assistant but also his confidant.
But sometimes, Asher had a feeling that his assistant's advice could lead him to trouble someday.
Probably this one.
It wasn't like he was a child, though.
Asher knew what he was doing. If only he had other ways, he wouldn't have resorted to this.
He just constantly had to remind himself that he was doing this for Violet.
“Uhm, Mr. Sydney. I think I'll avoid speaking to you in her presence.”
Instead of calling him by his name, James preferred that.
Asher shrugged.
As the car entered the Villa estates, he glanced out of the window, expectation as well as apprehension filling up his chest.
“Please, Boss, you have to act natural,” James advised. “She might sense something strange and…”
Their plan might not work.
Asher got that.
James didn't have to keep repeating it.
The car finally arrived inside the Villa and James dropped him off.
“Aren't you coming inside?” Asher asked.
But the assistant declined. “It's much better if you handle this alone, Boss. My presence will only be an intrusion.”
Asher shook his head, watching the guy drive away.
Well, he wasn't nervous was he?
Turning around, he faced the Villa and took in a deep breath.
The moment he stepped inside the living room, an enticing aroma greeted him, floating from the kitchen's direction.
The maid must be cooking a healthy meal just the way he'd ordered.
Wondering if she was upstairs, Asher took that direction.
However, he walked into the maid coming downstairs instead. “Mr. Sydney, you're back!” She greeted cheerfully.
Asher frowned a bit. “Where's she?”
“You mean Ma’am Violet? She's inside the kitchen. She insisted that she'd cook today.”
Right!
Violet!
Asher didn't know if he was going to get used to calling her that.
“You shouldn't have let her cook. You know she hasn't recovered yet,” He scolded the maid.
“Mr. Sydney, I'm sorry. But the Madam insisted.”
Asher didn't listen to her apology.
He instantly turned and hurried in the kitchen’s direction.
The closer he got to the kitchen, the more that enticing aroma deepened. Until he couldn't handle it anymore, and smoke filled up his lungs.
Asher hastened his footsteps, covering his nose and cursing under his breath.
Rapid coughs sounded from the kitchen, and he barged inside to find her in the middle of the smoke.
She ran in circles as if confused about what to do while the oil burned inside the pan.
Quickly, Asher turned off the stove and took her out of the kitchen.
“Ah! Oh, my goodness! Ma’am- Madam, are you alright?” The maid came rushing their way, her eyes wide with horror. “I- I am so sorry. I shouldn't have left you alone.”
Asher glared at her. “You really want to lose your job.”
“No!” The girl coughing in his arms stopped him. “It- It's not her fault. Please don't blame her.”
“Why would you defend her when she's too careless?” He sighed, using his hankie to wipe the sweat on her face. “What if you get hurt?”
She smiled and looked down.
Tugging at his jacket's sleeve, she played with the cufflink. “Forgive her this time. She won't repeat it.”
What choice did he have?
Asher raised his hand and waived the maid off.
“You're so kind, Madam. Th- Thank you!” The maid got up from her knees and hurried inside the kitchen.
After the maid left, Asher checked her arm. “Does it hurt?”
The casts had been removed, but if she hadn't insisted, they wouldn't have left the hospital yet.
“No. It doesn't.” She smiled. “All my wounds have healed. Except this…”
Her cheeks heated up when she touched her chest.
Asher wondered what she meant.
Confused, he blinked at her. “I'll take you back to the hospital. The Doctor will check if-”
“No…” She interrupted him, her cheeks becoming red. “It only hurts here because you haven't kissed me yet ever since I woke up in the hospital. Do I look ugly now?”
No!
She was the most beautiful woman.
If she didn't have Violet's face, she probably would be the ugliest in his eyes.
But he wasn't comfortable with kissing her. This was all wrong.
“Why are you quiet?” She stared at him, her wide eyes filled with innocence. “Don't you like me anymore because I can't remember anything?”
“That's not it.”
“I hoped I could cook a delicious meal to make you happy…” She looked down and sniffled. “B- But… I messed up.”
“Hey, stop overthinking it…” Asher made her look at him, softening his tone. “I like you, of course.”
Her smile returned.
She hugged his arm, nodding thoughtfully. “I know you do. You're so good to me.”
Then she added, “Your Mum called. She said because we didn't attend the last party, we must visit her tomorrow. She's holding a tea party with her friends.”
His Mum wouldn't give up, would she?
Asher had already made an excuse that Violet was ill, even sending her a photo of her in the hospital.
It appeared she didn't believe it.
“I can't wait to meet her…” She giggled. “I bet my mother-in-law is as beautiful as you're handsome. “Now I want you to kiss me, Hubby.”
