Chapter 89 A New Goal

Finally, Violet could breathe in the fresh air.

After a whole week of torture, she would be finally free and out of this place.

Although the mansion was vast, it was so suffocating that she felt as if she was in a dungeon.

Every day was spent in anticipation of the day they would finally leave this place.

“Mummy!”

As Violet dragged her luggage out of the bedroom, Mimi rushed to her in the hallway.

The little girl looked so sad, her eyes shining with tears. “Do we have to go away? I'll miss Grandma, Grandpa, and Greatgrandpa. I'll miss Ava and Daddy too, please don't take me from my Daddy.”

“We'll just move to a new house, Baby…” Violet ruffled her hair. “And of course, your Daddy and Ava are coming with us. We won't be very far, we'll be visiting here often.”

“Oh…” Mimi nodded in realization.

“The Villa is closer to your school also…” Violet added. “So you won't be late to school.”

“That's great, Mummy. Since Daddy's coming with us, it's no biggie.” Mimi wiped the tears in her eyes.

Smiling, she turned around and ran off. “I'll go say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa. I'll go visit Greatgrandpa too.”

Violet was too late to stop her.

Mimi had already run off.

Urgh!

She seriously didn't want her baby to wander into Clyde’s parent’s quarters.

Nobody could tell Becca's next action.

A bodyguard came and took her luggage away.

It was the last luggage, and Violet made sure she packed everything including all the clothes Clyde bought for her.

She wasn't gonna leave a single trace of her behind.

She walked out of the building and her gaze traveled to the mansion field.

Clyde was standing there, making a phone call.

Hopefully, he was ready. Not a day went by without him trying to convince her not to leave.

“Violet, Hey!”

Violet hadn't taken a single step yet when Freya's loud voice came from a random direction.

She suddenly grabbed her from behind and shook her like a doll.

“Urgh! What's the matter?” Violet turned around.

She'd only just recovered.

Was Freya planning to break her arm or what?

Planting both hands on her waist, her best friend glared at her. “Is it your idea to leave?”

“Uhuh.” Violet nodded.

Of all people, she didn't expect Freya to be mad too.

“Damnit! How could you do that? If we leave this place, w- what do you expect me to do with my life!?”

Now Violet was beginning to worry if something had touched her friend's brain. “You like it here?”

“Damn! I love it here!” Freya groaned. “You do remember that my guy works here, right? If we leave now-”

“I thought he was only a casual fling,” Violet murmured.

She didn't expect Freya to be so deep into that guy.

He was handsome. That was all.

He wasn't even the kind of guy her best friend would commit to.

“Urgh! You won't get it.” Freya stomped her foot on the ground.

She looked unusually moody which only confused Violet more.

“Well, whatever… we're leaving, right? Take me to the end of the world if you want, V-i-o-l-e-t!”

The way she pronounced her name had her shuddering inside.

Violet got away from the crazy girl before she pulled her hair out.

Freya looked so mad and out of control. What was wrong with everyone?

Why was she the only person who thought leaving this place was the best?

“Are you ready?” She approached Clyde who just finished making a phone call.

Clyde dropped the phone in his pants pocket.

He turned around, giving her a helpless look. “Yes. I'm ready, Honey. Where's Mimi?”

“She has gone to bid your parents goodbye.”

Clyde nodded. “Have you said goodbye to them yet? Mum is regretting her actions. I bet she wants to apologize.”

Violet didn't believe that.

Becca had already traumatized her. How could she ever go near that woman?

“Grandpa is sad…” Clyde added. “There’s still time to change your decision.”

Violet gave him a pointed look.

Would he keep trying to convince her to stay here even after they moved to the Villa?

“Can we discuss something else?” She folded her hands.

“Why not?” Clyde pulled her forward. “After we move back to the Villa, what are your plans? Should we start a new goal?”

“Of what?”

“Making more babies.”

Violet's heart dropped at his response, the mischievous smile on his face rubbing her in the wrong way.

A certain memory suddenly flooded back, and she couldn't help but get angry.

“Are you sure that you aren't gonna feed me more birth control pills?”

Clyde’s expression fell.

“Cat got your tongue, Mr. Crawford?” Violet snickered.

She pulled out of his embrace and walked away, her hate for him returning.

How could she ever forget about that?

Why did he joke with her about having more babies when he'd almost destroyed her womb?

“Look- Violet, wait!” Clyde chased after her. He sounded so desperate as he caught up with her. “I can explain. It's not what you're thinking.”

“Did you or did you not feed me those damned pills?” She snapped. “Answer me truthfully.”

Because she'd heard him say that!

Five years ago, she overheard him in his office discussing it with his mistress, Cora!

“Violet-”

“Just answer me!”

Clyde sighed heavily. He wiped his face in frustration, hesitating before nodding. “I- I did. But it's not-”

“That's enough.” Violet raised her hand.

That memory had just ruined her mood.

Would she ever be able to forgive him when she was constantly reminded of that?

“There's a reason why I did that,” Clyde explained. “It's not what you're thinking.”

Violet chortled.

What excuse did he have for that?

What kind of excuse was more important than her life?

She was just a poor girl he'd been forced to marry. She meant nothing to him.

Ignoring him, Violet resumed walking.

However, Clyde grabbed her all of a sudden and kissed her hard.

Violet could register nothing except for the feeling of his lips against hers, and the sound of heels behind her.
