Chapter 90 Become His Wife
Cora froze in her tracks.
Her fingernails dug into her palm, her heart burning with fury at the sight ahead.
Wasn't that Clyde?
Who was he kissing in broad daylight?
She chuckled, unable to take her eyes off the couple.
Cora had a feeling that he saw her.
Yet, he decided to add insult to her injury by kissing that filthy girl.
She looked at the sky, blinking rapidly to hold back her tears.
Clearing her throat, she stepped forward.
The couple broke apart.
Violet’s face flushed with embarrassment while Clyde stared at her impassively.
Cora wished she could see what Clyde saw in her.
Violet wasn't any better than her.
Why did he choose this filthy girl over her?
“Haven't I warned you not to come near my family?” He glared at her.
Cora smiled.
Would she ever listen to his warning?
Hadn't she made it clear that she would never stop chasing him?
“You were absent from the company for many days. I came to check-”
“It's none of your business.” He grabbed Violet’s waist, pulling her close to him.
Cora bit her lips.
Damnit! She so wanted to tear her apart.
“I'm now the COO, Clyde.” She chortled. “When the President of the Group is absent from the company, I should be concerned of course.”
His only response was a scorching glare that burnt down her pride to ashes.
She couldn't break down.
Cora couldn't lose face. Not in front of Violet.
“I also heard that Aunt has not been feeling well…” She added. “I've come to check on her.”
Yet, he disregarded her words and walked away with Violet.
Cora had been lying of course.
She didn't come to see his mother.
She'd only come solely for him.
She sighed and turned away, heading to his parents' quarters, and hoping she didn't bump into that filthy man.
However, luck wasn't by her side.
It hadn't always been.
The moment Cora entered the building, someone grabbed her.
“I guess you've forgotten the way to my room.” He pulled her to a corner and pressed her against the wall. “Tell me, did you miss me already?”
“Stop it!” Struggling to push him away, Cora whispered. “This- This is inappropriate.”
“Tell me what's inappropriate.” Herman laughed, digging his palm into her dress.
Cora cursed inside her mind.
No way she'd allowed what happened last time to repeat itself.
Clyde almost caught them that day.
She didn't even get the opportunity to speak to him. And if she hadn't snuck away, he would have noticed.
“Not here!” She gasped as he kissed her neck. “Herman, you can't…”
“Oh, I will.” He chuckled, trying to lift her dress.
Cora cursed again.
She lifted her palm and slapped him, pushing him away in the process.
“Ha! Now you're gonna get it.” His eyes glinted and he laughed like a maniac.
Before Cora could think of running, he grabbed her. “I know you want it. Stop pretending as if-”
“Hey!” A tiny voice interrupted him.
Cora held her breath.
She literally cursed out loud.
Damnit! No. It couldn't be!
“What are you doing with Aunt Cora, Grandpa?” The little girl ran over, giving the man a questioning look.
“Ouch! Isn't the term Grandpa too old for a little guy like me?” Herman pressed his chest. “You've got to be nice, Mimi.”
“My Greatgrandpa said you're a baddie. Aunt Cora is no longer my friend, but I won't let you bully her!” Mimi stood between them, spreading her arms wide. “Now back off before I tell my Daddy!”
Herman backed away.
Laughing, he raised his hands in a peaceful gesture. “Indeed, your Daddy's so scary. I must go, I guess.”
Cora sighed in relief after he left.
Damn! She was gonna make him pay soon.
Nobody messed up with her without facing the consequences.
“You're so nice and brave, Baby…” She squatted in front of Mimi, faking a gloomy look. “You're a true friend.”
“It's nothing. Mummy said it's brave to stand up to bullies. You should learn that.”
Right!
Cora scoffed inside, fighting the urge to roll her eyes.
Plastering on a sweet smile, she held the girl's shoulders. “Can you do me a favor? Can you not tell your Mummy and Daddy that you saw me with Grandpa Herman?”
Mimi squinted her eyes.
Then she shook her head. “The last time you made me lie, Mummy was mad.”
“It's not any type of lie, Baby…” She laughed dryly. “It's a white lie. I don't want your Mummy and Daddy to think I'm not brave.”
If anyone, especially Clyde, knew about this she'd be dead meat.
The little girl wasn't smart enough to understand what they'd been doing, but adults surely would.
“Okay, I'll keep my mouth shut.” Mimi agreed. “If Mummy or Daddy doesn't ask about it, I won't say anything.”
Clyde and that filthy girl were never gonna ask.
Cora patted the girl's hair and stood up.
She quickly rearranged her clothes, smoothening the creases on her blouse.
After collecting herself, she walked ahead. “Aren't you on your way to meet Grandma and Grandpa? Let's go.”
Well, Mimi didn't take her hands.
She hurried off, yelling, “We're no longer friends, Aunt Cora. We can't hold hands.”
Laughing softly, Cora went after the girl.
After she was done dealing with that filthy girl, Violet, she was so going to enjoy being her daughter's stepmother.
More than anything else, the little girl's cheerfulness irritated her.
She wasn't even supposed to exist. How could Violet give birth to a child despite taking birth control pills?
Did Clyde lie to her?
Did he say that due to the hallucinations?
Cora arrived at the living room to find the little girl sitting in the comfort of her grandmother's lap.
Becca looked extremely mad that Cora was almost afraid that Mimi had told her what she saw.
“Can you believe she's taking my granddaughter away?” Becca wept. “Cora, do you think it's fair?”
“Calm down, Aunt.”
Violet was going away.
To where?
Cora sat down and waited until the woman calmed down.
After Becca explained it all, she clenched her fists. “Uhm, Aunt… won't they visit once in a while. Besides, Clyde has already taken her side.”
“That's the problem. She has brainwashed my son.” Becca sniffled. “Cora, I knew from the start that you like Clyde. You are better than that girl, so I'll make sure you replace her and become his wife!”
