Chapter 91 Memories
~
Now Violet was getting worried.
Why hadn't Mimi returned yet?
She couldn't still be at Grandpa Luke's quarters, could she?
Yet, Violet hoped she was.
The feeling that she must still be at Clyde's parents’ quarters scared her.
They were about to enter the car, but Mimi was nowhere to be found.
“Don't panic. I'll look for her.”
Clyde’s statement was like the air as she paid no attention to him.
Getting into the car, she shut the door and faced the other side.
The man was really something, wasn't he?
Violet hadn't seen that kiss coming. She hadn't been ready for that embarrassment.
However, she had a feeling that Clyde did it intentionally to spite Cora.
If there was a feud between him and his mistress, why did he involve her?
Besides, wasn't he going to abide by her no-intimacy rule?
Several minutes later, Clyde returned with Mimi.
He must have found her at his parents' quarters, because he looked angry as he entered the backseat of the car with her.
Violet didn't need to guess what happened.
Becca must have tried to keep Mimi with her.
If it was she who went to collect their daughter, Violet doubted if she would be able to as the crazy woman might overpower her.
Mimi appeared sad.
Pouting her lips, the girl fiddled with her shirt, wrinkling it.
“Are you alright, Baby?” Violet asked, reaching out to hold her. “The Villa we're moving into is a beautiful place, you know.”
“I promise we'll come visit Grandma often…” Clyde stroked her hair, his angry look dissolving. “I can bring you tomorrow if you want.”
Violet gasped.
No!
That wasn't gonna happen!
“Uhm, Daddy… I don't really miss Grandma.” Mimi looked up. She appeared sadder as she spoke. “Grandma says she'll miss me, but…”
Mimi trailed off, leaving them both confused.
Violet exchanged glances with Clyde.
He didn't seem to know what exactly was bothering the girl as well.
“It's alright, Baby… you can tell us everything,” Violet assured.
“I'll do anything to take your sadness away…” Clyde added. “Did someone bully you?”
Mimi sighed.
“Mummy taught me to be a strong lady. I'm not afraid of bullies,” she replied. “But… It's Aunt Cora.”
Mimi was hesitating again.
Hearing the name ‘Cora,’ Violet had a terrible feeling.
What did that evil girl do to her daughter?
She should have guessed that they would bump into each other at Clyde's parents' quarters.
Clyde didn't appear comfortable as well, his expression darkening. “Did she hurt you, Baby?”
Mimi shook her head. “But Aunt Cora and Grandma are planning to overthrow my Mummy. Grandma said Mummy is incapable, and Aunt Cora should be your wife and my new Mummy. Daddy, are you going to send my Mummy away and choose Aunt Cora instead?”
Did Becca have that conversation with Cora in Mimi's presence?
Urgh!
How unbelievable.
It was no wonder Mimi was very sad.
“Why would I send your Mummy away?” Clyde responded, his angry look replaced by a look of helplessness.
He was probably fed up with his mother's actions.
“She's the most amazing woman I've ever met. Besides, I love her,” Clyde went on. “I'm not gonna choose Cora over her.”
“Really?” The little girl's sadness washed away. “What if Grandma forces you, Daddy… My Grandma doesn't like Mummy.”
“I'll still choose your Mummy. Grandma will have to bear with it.”
As Clyde explained, the girl clung to his arm, her expression brightening. “Well, how much do you love my Mummy?”
“So much that I'll never stop fighting for our love.”
Love!
The more he mentioned that word, the more Violet's heart broke inside, and the more angry she became.
He wasn't worth mentioning that sacred word.
Did he think love was a plaything?
Did he realize that taking that word for granted would have repercussions?
Violet glanced sideways and their eyes met.
Clyde gazed at her…
He didn't look away… as if he was never planning to.
He didn't mean what he said did he?
Damn!
Why was she even doubting?
Of course, the heartless man was only lying to please his daughter.
“You're amazing, Daddy!” Mimi cheered. “Please don't let Grandma send my Mummy away. We're gonna be a happy family, right?”
“Right!” Clyde wasted no second before nodding.
Still gazing into Violet’s eyes, he reached out secretly to touch her hand.
But she shifted away instantly.
Violet didn't know why she was confused.
She didn't know why she suddenly felt troubled.
Clyde admitted that he'd fed her those birth control pills. A man who loved her would never do that.
As Mimi went on chatting with him, her giggles resounding inside the car now and then, Violet faced the other side, lost in her own thoughts.
At one point, she thought about her best friend.
Did Freya stay back in the mansion?
Was she not going to follow them because of that waiter guy?
After a long ride, the car finally entered the neighborhood where the Villa was located.
Violet squinted as the all-so-familiar houses came into view.
Her heart throbbed with a sudden ache as her last memory here resurfaced.
She'd left for the hospital, suffering from an intense stomach ache, never knowing that she was never going to return.
It had been five years already, yet, the houses still looked new probably due to constant refurbishments.
When the car pulled over inside the Villa, more memories returned.
The memories she'd been suppressing for many years.
“Welcome back.” Clyde's voice sounded beside her.
His tone wasn't so enthusiastic.
He picked Mimi up, who was now deeply asleep, and he left the car with her.
Violet also left the car, breathing in the fresh air.
The Villa was so empty.
Not a single servant was present.
It was a tightly secured Villa located in a remote neighborhood. Funny how she'd been the one who chose this place as their matrimonial home.
For three years, they'd lived here in love and harmony.
Hopefully, all those memories would remain blurred and forgotten.
