Chapter 12

“What is this?” He waved the paper.

“Oh Mr. Hawthorn, allow me to explain.”

Assistant Mike boldly took the paper from him, cleared his throat and started speaking.

“The lady... I mean the woman you have been dreaming about,”

Sterling sighed inside. Must he remind him of her title? She was already married, he knew that.

And whenever he remembered that, his heart beat would increase and anger would Welled up in him.

That jerk that called himself her husband. He promised to deal with him whenever he set his eyes on him.

“Her name’s Vivienne Montague…”

That name rang a bell in his ears. Vivienne Montague, his favorite actress whom he never saw again.

But that wouldn’t be the actress, no. The names only seemed familiar. Sterling thought.

“She got married to her husband a year and some weeks ago,” Sterling nodded to him to go on.

“You aren’t going to believe who her husband is, Mr. Hawthorn.” Assistant Mike shook his head vigorously.

That was the part Sterling wanted to hear. Her husband, the idiot that doesn’t respect his wife.

“You know him, Mr. Hawthorn. He is that guy that came here the other time and caused a commotion…”

“You remember him, right?” Sterling frowned.

Assistant Mike gulped down and fixed his eyes on the paper.

He was trying to explain what was on the paper but couldn’t. Nothing there looked like what he wrote down on that paper.

“Oh my God!” he exclaimed.

Assistant Mike wiped off the drops of Sweat on his forehead.

He forgot the paper in his office and going back there wouldn’t be a good thing for him.

Luckily for him, he remembered every detail he wrote on that paper.

If not, he would have lose his job at that moment.

“Speak!” He slapped the desk, snapping him back to the reality.

“My goodness.” Assistant Mike jumped back.

“I… I’m sorry Mr. Hawthorn, I was carried away.” He bowed his head.

He fixed his eyes on the paper, pretending he was reading from it so that his Boss would be so proud of him.

“Mr. Hawthorn, master. Her husband is none other than Mr. Sebastian Penelope of PENELOPE's wORLD. That rude jerk.” Assistant Mike clenched his fist.

Sterling dropped his hand from the desk and slouched on the swivel chair, nodding his head.

No other person could act that way towards their wife unless it was that dude.

Why didn’t he even think about that from the first place?

Sterling was amazed and at the same time, enraged.

He couldn’t believe that good for nothing dude was the man that called himself his mysterious woman’s husband.

He wondered what that woman was doing with him. Shouldn’t she just leave his life and go her way?

He was putting her life in danger all the time but she wouldn’t leave. What sort of a woman does that.

Well, since he already knew who the husband was, then it wasn’t a big deal for him.

Sebastian wasn’t someone he respect in that city. He was one of those rude jerks that think they are better than everyone because they are rich.

In his sight, they were only business guys that engage their Businesses in illegal activities.

He’ll summon Sebastian to his presence and make him free that woman.

Money would do the trick. After all, that’s what he always wanted.

But his thoughts was cut short by Assistant Mike.

“Mr. Hawthorn, there’s another problem.” Assistant Mike announced.

Sterling lifted up his brows, showing him he was confused on what problem that could be.

“Ms. Vivienne left the house.” a smile escaped Sterling’s lip.

He thought she would continue staying under him until he decides to take her life.

So she is brave after all? He chuckled silently.

“But Mr. Hawthorn, no one knows where she’s in right now. Even Mr. Sebastian have no idea where she is.”

“What do you mean no one know where she is?” Sterling’s voice has a hint of anger in it.

“That was the information I got, Mr. Hawthorn.” Assistant Mike gulped down.

( She didn’t stay in her limit)

The information he got? Sterling thought Assistant Mike would bring him everything about that woman.

But no, he couldn’t even find out who she was and where she was from.

And worse, he didn’t find out where she was staying at that moment.

Could that be the last time he would set his eyes on her? No, not when his heart beat only for her.

Sterling came down from the car and headed inside the mansion.

Assistant Mike wasn’t with him, he fled out of the office when Sterling’s anger evolved the moment he told him he didn’t know where Vivienne was staying.

How could he? He shouldn’t have even said that in front of him.

He would have lose his job if not that he ran out of the office as fast as he could.

“Mr. Hawthorn.” The bodyguard standing beside the door greeted.

He turned the door handle then stepped aside for Sterling to enter.

Entering the extravagant living room, Sterling found the whole place transformed in to something else.

Instead of the usual color, the living room was transformed in to a hall. The chairs weren’t there and so was the TV.

Everywhere was decorated in blue and white ribbons, balloons and curtains.

What’s happening there? Sterling thought. The only times the house was transformed in to that was when his Mum was still alive.

Was she back? He thought. But then remembered no one comes back from death.

Suddenly, he heard clapping of hands and cheers coming from every angle of the living room.

His cousin, Isabella and some other ladies who were the same age with her emerged from behind the curtains.

On their heads were paper con line caps with blue shining sheets ruffles on it. And in their hands were glass cups filled with red wine.

Sterling wondered what was going on until Isabella stepped forward and put the cap on his head.

“Happy birthday, my favorite cousin and also the love of my life.” Others clapped their hands as she giggled.

That was when he remembered that day was his birthday.

He never cared about his own birthdays not even to remember it.

What was even good about birthdays by the way? The only birthday he always remembered and looked forward to was that of his Mum.

And on his birthday, she would be the one to wake him up with beautiful songs she would made up every year since he was a kid.

But she was no more, that was why he didn’t even know that day was his birthday.

If she was still alive, she would have be the one that would remind him first since morning.

“You aren’t smiling, honey.” Isabella cupped his chin on her palms.

He stepped back, removed the cap and placed it on her palm.

“This isn’t proper, Isabella.” Sterling walked away from her after saying that.

Isabella watched as he went up the stairs like someone running away from Monsters.

She felt so embarrassed right in front of her friends. She thought Sterling would be so happy if she did that for him.

But no, he showed his real attitude instead of concealing it to make her look perfect in front of her friends.

“I thought you said he’s going to like it.”

One of her friend said.

“I thought the same. Didn’t you say Sterling and you are already couple? Why did he act that way if you really are?” Another one chipped in.

Isabella tightened her eyes and bit her lips before turning around to face them.

“Of course, what do you think,” she chuckled nervously.

“He’s only emotional because his Mum’s the only one that does this for him.”

Her friends nodded their heads.

“Poor Sterling, I feel so sad for him. Who know what he’s feeling right now,”

Isabella sighed sadly.

“Yea, but I’ve been trying to make him understand that his life hasn’t end as well. This is just another phase of his life.”

Her friends agreed with her and they urged her to take good care of Sterling.

One of them went as far as advising her to get married to Sterling as soon as possible so she would take care of him better.

“What was that, honey?” Isabella went to Sterling’s room after her friends left.

Sterling who was supporting his weight on the dressing table lifted up himself and turned to face her in anger.

“You went too far, you know. Right?” he asked her but she scoffed at him.

“I didn’t, honey. I did that to make you happy. But you embarrassed me in front of my friends.”

Isabella stamped the extra long heels she was wearing on the floor.

He didn’t ask her to do that. She was the one that chair do embarrass her self in front of her friends.

“But you remembered it hasn’t even been a month since my Mum passed away, do you?”

Isabella sighed. She knew, but what would happen had already happened and that shouldn’t stop them from having fun.

“Your Mum won’t want you to be sad, honey. That was why I decided to throw a little party for you.”

She stepped forward and held his arm.

“I only want you to be happy just the way your late Mum does. And don’t be surprised she’s happy right now wherever she is.”

Sterling pulled away from her. That wasn’t an excuse. She has no right to invite people in to his house in the name of his birthday.

His Mum just passed away and that was so uncalled for.

“Don’t you repeat this again, Isabella. That was an insult to me and also to my name.”

She lifted up a brow surprisingly. An insult to his name? But that was only a birthday.

Besides, she didn’t invite much people in to the house. She only invited three of her friends.

“I need a privacy, leave.” Sterling turned his back on her.

He didn’t allow her stay anything again because that would only anger him.

And he wouldn’t want to raise his voice on her. He respected her a lot just the way she respected him.

“Servants!” He could hear her yelling for the servants.

“Clean this place, right now!” Her voice echoed around the house like a thunder.

Sterling covered his ears with a pillow when she wouldn’t stop yelling at the servants.

She was angry, he knew. But she called that upon herself. If she had stayed in her limit, then he wouldn’t have said that to her.

( Only wanted to make him happy)

When the day break, Isabella grabbed her distilled water Jug and left the house.

She was going for an exercise that morning to cool off her nerves from shouting all through out the night, instructing the servants to take the decorations apart.

She didn’t want to see them in the house again, not even a pin from that decoration.

She wanted everything to be trashed or just burned.

She spent a lot buying those things. She wanted everything to look so perfect that Sterling wouldn’t have to look at it two times before he likes them.

And the cake too, she didn’t even want to think about that.

She was a Chef so, she exhausted her energy in to making that magnificent cake.

All her friends praised that cake but he didn’t even glance at it.

She dumped it in the trash bin out of anger and cursed herself for worrying too much about him.

But what was she going to do if not to treat him good and make him happy? After all, she chose him out of all the rich dude interested in her.

She promised herself that if not Sterling, then no one. And no girl dare come in between them or else, she would regret it for her whole life.
